Would like to hear opinions, comments, critiques, praise, et al on an Artley Alto flute made in 1981. Don't yet know if it was made in Elkhardt or Nogales. What do you think?

Can folks recommend some nice, soothing solo music for a beginning alto flute player? A little humor for a Monday, but a bona fide question -
I am looking at a nice Artley alto flute, and the seller has said they could not see a serial number on the instrument. Does this strike anyone as bogus, or are there true instances of this? Tx. much.
