I find the good old fashioned manual wind-up ones helpful occasionally if I am having real trouble with a difficult rhythm.

When I am not warmed up, I often cannot play high notes without going up to them in a scale.
Try just doing the top octave of a few scales, up and down, and hopefully practice will make the top notes stronger.
Flutebabe: Scales are an exercise for the ear - so don't get hung up on reading the notes, because it will probably just become frustrating. Listen to what you're playing - if it doesn't sound right, chances are it's not right. If after this you have trouble getting it to sound right, then look at w...
