Back from my 2nd flute lesson with my new teacher. What was supposed to be an hours lesson was closer to 2 hours but I won't complain.
We did loads of work on tone, enbouchure .. and note finishing (rounding it off, without letting it go flat).
Next was the studies ... I'm going to try the Alan Bullard "Agile Flute", but will also be practising the "Breathless Flute" too as has some interest, and also involves flutter tonging with I can't do - yet!
Spent a long time looking at the Hindemith piece .. and I have to say, it's really growing on me.
Now, just the scales to crack on with ...
Grade 8 here I come!

Re: Grade 8 here I come!
Dude, I think that eighth grade was honestly my worst year in band, like, ever. My director HATED me, and I hated him right back. I actually think that he hated me because I hated him, and kind of knew more than he did, and always complained about the simplicity of our music selection. Because I'm a stuck up snob like that. I'm in my first year of high school now though, and, lemme tell 'ya. Some of our music is intense.
On your flutter tongue issue-
A lot of people in my band had a hard time with this for one of our December concert songs. It's pretty much doing that whole Spanish R-roll thing, except you make more of an o with your mouth, rather than opening it. It takes a bit of practice, but it'll come eventually. Just keep practicing, and believing that you're better than everyone else. That's the real part of being a flute player. Most people would say belief in yourself and your abilities, but, really, it's all just narcissism. c:

Re: Grade 8 here I come!
Wow, I have to admit that I do envy you now that you are in grade 8. I took lessons too but didn't get the chance to make it up to that grade. But I'm still happy since I do know how to play one.zummerzet_lou wrote:Back from my 2nd flute lessons with my new teacher.
