Non-convention-goers

So, how's everyone who isn't attending the NFA convention spending their weekend? It was a little far from home this year

, but next year's is in Pittsburgh, so I'm sure I'll make it then. Instead, this weekend, my husband and I are playing in the pit for Seussical (lots of piccolo

!!!), and I'm completing my substitute teaching certification (expired). Oh, well, at least I accomplished something!

It was too far for me as well

I am spending the weekend preparing for my new job, a muic teacher position at a private school

Next yea, I have promised a few of my older students a trip to the NFA (if [i]certain[/i] criteria are met). Yea, sort of a bribe, but VERY motivational!

Actually I never knew there was such thing as the NFA convention. In fact, I didn't even know there was such a thing as a National Flute Associatioin until yesterday! LOL But if this year it's in Pittsburgh, maybe I can go. What happens at the convention?

Masterclasses, competitions, lectures, concerts, exhibitors (of all things flute), and generally more flute playing than you are ever likely to find in one place other than a flute convention. It's tons of fun, and if you can go, I highly suggest it. Just be sure to wear comfortable shoes, because there can be LOTS of walking involved!

OK, now I have to whine. . . I want to go!!

things did not work out as I hoped this year . . . but eventually, I will get to go to the convention again. I was at the 2004 convention in Nashville, and it was amazing. I still want to take some students the next time I go. It would be a definate eye opener for them

By the way MeLizzard, thanks for the encouragement (I know it's a little late). Evidently, I did not read your post from last year. The job is going well, and I look forward to a second term

Did I see somewhere that it was in San Diego last year? I wish I'd have known before hand; I'd like to check it out.

Yes, it was in SD last year, and it was a great convention. If you're interested in attending, I believe it's in Pittsburgh this year. Information can be found on the NFA website at nfaonline.org

Good, about the job! So, I'm certainly going this year, as usually the convention's so far from home. Pittsburgh's a three-hour drive, totally do-able. I would like to piccolo shop while there, but I really need to buy one sooner (Arggg!). Is anyone else going?

I want to go... but I still have to see what my parents say. It's a five hour drive, but I've done that loads of times, so it's not that long to me. At least it's not in California or anything this year. I'd like to go piccolo shopping too, but I've never really played one before so I probably won't get one. At least I can browse.
