Hmm.... I personally am a fan of the Hindemith Sonata, Telemann's 2nd Fantasie, Mozart G major [yes it is common, but everyone has to do it at some time or another], and anything out of the Flute Music by French Composers book. But... those are just pieces I named off of the top of my head, so you may not want to do those.
Just choose 2 or three pieces from different eras that you like. Avoid anything too contemporary. An audition where you honk around on your flute and make a bunch of noise isn't impressive at all.
What are your thoughts on the Schubert Variations? I'm playing it for some upcoming masterclasses and I was wanting to kill two birds with one stone. lol I don't know if that's overplayed though for auditions- I want to avoid that if possible. =]
Hmm... I haven't played those... yet. But, I don't think Schubert is played very often. If you have it worked up, then why not? I would just work up another piece that is contrasting to the Schubert. Maybe something Baroque.
I dont not sure if i understand you...
Here, in Spain, we play often the concert of Cecile Chaminade, do you know?
And we have spanish composer very good.
Umm, there is a variation about "Carmen", Bizet, for flute, this work is really nice...
