Flute-Clarinet duets

Post by asoalin »

I know a couple of clarinetists (is that what you call them?) who want to get together and play duets. I'm having some trouble finding music for us to play. Flute-oboe duets seem to be a lot more common. Can standard Bb clarinets play oboe music? I'm not sure about how other instruments transpose or whatever. If not, does anyone have a good source for clarinet-flute duet music?

The piece "Airheads'' by Gary Shocker is a lot of fun. It's for flute and Bb clarinet. A friend and I used it to compete in a competition and we won one of the cash prizes. We performed it Shocker style (in our stocking feet--- blue and white tops, black slacks, and white socks). It was fun! (although the clarinet instructor that helped us almost had a cow!)

Nice costumes for a Halloween competition! :D

I don't know why I didn't think to look at Flute World! I was looking at sheetmusicplus.com and finding a bunch of flute-oboe stuff. I was looking for intermediate-type stuff. Thanks ;)

There are a couple of flute/clarinet duet music books that I have .... I'll see if I can find the publisher for you. The 1st one is easy/intermediate and the 2nd is advanced.

Is it the "78 duets for..."? I just ordered both from Flute World (the easy-med and the advanced). I also got a Christmas flute-clarinet book. I hope they're good!

Yes, those are the ones! Both books are fun for both flute and clarinet.

Enjoy!

Try to look here: http://www.8notes.com/flute-clarinet_duet/ I'm sure you'll find something there that you and your partner would want to play. And would you mind posting a recording here as well if you successfully played a flute-clarinet duet?

There are some great duets based on Ignacio Cervantes 12 Cuban Dances. 19th century Cuban composer. Arrangements are great for the flute and clarinet with great balance and writing that fits the fingers for each instrument. Check out the arrangements from this site
