My current private flute teacher spends, on average in a half-hour lesson, 20 minutes doing some obscure, crazy sight reading, 5 minutes dumping music on me for playing at old folks homes and churches, and 5 minutes running half of one of the smaller, easier movements of my All-County Solo. She's given me three weeks to learn three movements and expects me to have them perfect, no questions asked, by tomorrow. I've tried asking her if we can spend more time on my solo, but I'm met with her annoying cackle and a condescending "You're fiiiine!"
Yeah, I'm fine. On the two lines of that one movement that we go over every lesson.
She refuses to listen and alter her lesson plan so we can focus on what needs to get done. I feel like a flute robot, coming when called and playing when wanted. I suppose I'm answering my question right there. ^.^
Anywho, I'd like the opinion of other flute teachers on her teaching style.

Re: Should I switch flute teachers?
Every teacher approaches teaching differently. Most teachers, if not all, get their cues from former teachers (either how to or how not to teach). Not every student will fit well with every teacher. You have to decide what works, or does not work, for you. I would suggest looking around and requesting a few trial lessons before switching permanently. That will prevent you from making a change that may be worse that what you are experiencing now.
