high G on piccolo
For some reason I can not play a high G on piccolo I can play a high G# and A above it but not a high G. Also the high notes on piccolo seem to be extremely hard to play. Are there any tips for high notes speaking easier on the piccolo?
Is it cracking or are you completely unable to get the G out at all? I suspect there might be a leak...
Often one can get the high note eventually, but it's the "fishing" for the right air stream on piccolo that makes it hard for some. Playing flute is a lot like singing or dancing. Hitting a note or a position has a lot to do with muscle memory which only comes with practice.
As for the difficulty getting high notes out on piccolo--it takes a very focused and precise air stream. This in turn requires a flexible embouchure. I would start at a high D and play long notes down the scale only tounging the starting note. Repeat while adding one higher note each time. After that I'd practice octave intervals trying really hard not to crack the high notes. Afeter that, try doing the exercises quietly.
With time and a more flexible embouchure, you should be able to pop those high notes out.

Piccolo is more difficult to play becuase it requires a much more focused and accurate airstream to produce a good sound. Normally, G# is the difficult note to produce, not G, so be sure you are using the proper fingering, or perhaps take it to a repair tech to be sure there's nothing wrong with it mechanically. Also be sure not to tense your embouchure when playing picc...A relaxed, but focused air stream is much more likely to produce good results than a tight one. To get these upper notes to speak easier, slur up into the chromatically to get a feel for where they are, and then begin attacking on them. Over time you'll get the feel for it.
