Hey! Okay, so I have a competition coming up in April, and I'm playing "Variations on a Familier Theme" (Surprise Symphony) By Ricky Lombardo. And I'm having real issues with getting the 16th notes even. Does anyone have an analogy or something that will help?
Also for this piece, I'm having trouble making the accents sound good. Now they just sound like I just tripped or something.
With my piece last year, the judge said to act like you're spitting watermelon seeds, but that just makes it sound dirty to me...
But try these tips:
Have you heard of double tonguing? This is when you keep your emb. but say TEE-KEE-TEE-KEE on rapid notes. This will take a while to make even, as the "KEE" part of your tongue muscle is probably not as strong as the "TEE" (which you use all the time on the flute).
The other idea I have is looking in the mirror and making sure that when you tongue, your lips move very minimally and that you don't "reset' your embochoure.
