No, I wouldn't put either of them on my flute.
How long have you had this flute? If it is new it may just need some time to
loosen up. Otherwise a visit to a reputable repair shop might be needed. Kim

Cork Grease + Flute = ack! this is a no-no. Why
it's a no-no... ask me in a few days. i'll tell you then. I've forgotten. ^^;
I just have memories from elementary school band... I had the same problem,
where the head joint is hard to get out of the body. So apparently, my mind
thought the same things you did, and I plagued a sax friend of mine into letting
me borrow his grease. Or maybe it was a clarinet...? Ack. >_X letting mind
wander. back to story. So anyway, I was about to put the grease on the bottom of
the head joint, when my band teacher yelled at me. I forget what his reasonings
were. But he made it clear that putting cork grease on a cork-less flute is not
good. *nodnod* Valve oil? Ask a trumpet. they have some. That's what trumpets
are good for. The valve oil.

I have been told both ways. That there are
acceptable lubricants for the headjoint body connection and that none should
ever be used. I was told that grease will collect tiny particles of dirt, even
metals and eventually act as a sandpaper and wear down the metal. I would err on
the safe side and not use any. If it is so tight you have a struggle to assemble
see a repairman. But you are better off tight than loose.

Do not use cork grease. It builds up on the
joints not really helping it. Eventually, it makes the joints tighter. I use to
use it until my new teacher said not too. If you have a cotton hankie or
whatever cloth you use put a little saliva on it and rub all the joints. It
works good for me and if that doesn't work you probably do have to get it
repaired. Hope it helps!

I wouldnt touch my flute with corkgrease or
vaseline. I put corkgrease on my old flute a few years ago and it still gets
blackness on the joints, then it goes on my case. If it is bent, you will need a
professional repair person to fix it (dont try bend it back into shape yourself,
lol) if it is simply just dirty just clean it over well with a non chemical
cloth, like you clean the outside of your flute with. The chemicals can often be
harsh (mainly on plating) so i wouldnt use any. Just stick to the normal
cleaning cloth (yamaha has good cloths if you dont have a good one) or a glasses
cleaning cloth. Hope this has been of some help. [8)]
