Pearl 795 CODA review

Post by m3the01 »

Buying a new flute was a very difficult task and much research was conducted and many demo's followed.

My main focus here is to give my experience with my now three week old Pearl 795 Coda series flute.

Firstly, overall very impressed. The headjoint is a little short, and flattened 'A' out or sharpened, cant remember now. Pulled her out a quarter inch and everything is near perfectly in tune.

The mechanism is very soft to the touch and extremely precise. Has just enough resistance for me and very quick on releases.

Tonal quality is very good from low B all the way to high E (forth octave). I am able to push the lower notes to limit with ease. I dont normally play much higher than High E, rarely this high. However, i still maintain the high E sharp during scales.

The Split E mechanism is wonderful, never had trouble with E (third octave) but it actually is a little easier and sounds a little nicer, many may argue flatness or sharpness but i am happy.

The C# trill key is extremely nice and much quicker than standard C# trills.

Overall very happy, now only time will tell. That is concerning how the flute will hold up.

Last but not least my flute teacher, PhD in flute studies, etc was so impressed with it. Hopes i leave it to him in my will, lol hes got 20 years on me.

This should be noted though, i studied flute for many years but had a great deal of time off. Ive been back for a couple months, 3 hrs min per day and ive actually surpassed my playing previously; more mature who knows.

Either way, im extremely satisfied and would suggest this flute to anyone. I am by no means an a scholarly flute player, but im getting better and its a pleasure to play with this instrument.
