Rubbing Alcohol

Is it safe to use rubbing alcohol to clean out the inside of my flute?

I've never heard of this, maybe not a good idea. I have used a damp (not wet!) cloth on my cleaning rod, followed by a dry one, making sure to keep the pads dry.
