No, what I'm finding is a student flute that is silver plated, yet it has the sterling silver riser and lip plate. The rest of the head joint is plated.

Sterling Silver Riser

I'm looking a flute with a sterling silver riser; how much of a difference does this make? It's the smallest part that can be solid silver, correct?

(sorry for all the posts, I'm just trying to become educated before I make a purchase :D )

play testing

I know that it is important to play test; however, what should beginners do? After all, don't most beginners just use whatever their middle school gives them or their local store gives them to rent? How can a beginner play test if they are still working on their fundamental sound, etc. ? I'm just no...

I mainly want to have everything possible available to me. I love modern music, so that (when I get to that level) includes things like low b's and tonal nuances etc. What makes the 665 pearl better? Is it the foot joint? Thanks for the replies; they're quite helpful.

b-foot / open holes

I've been doing research and I'm finding a wide variety of answers. I just wanted more opinions on the matter. B-foot Now, aside from the fact that this has only about 80 pieces of music written to use low b, doesn't it help with the higher registers (gizmo)? Also, won't the length of the B-foot hel...

Pinky Key

So I know that all notes, with the exception of D, are tecnically supposed to have the pinky key (the larger one, i believe it's called Eb key; sorry, I've just started learning) down. How necessary is this? It seems to not effect tuning at all. I know of an extremely good flautist who doesn't bothe...

Needing help choosing a brand...

I'm a brass player who is learning flute for my own personal enjoyment. I know that I'm serious about it and I have the people to help me learn correctly. I would rather start off with a decent flute then having to upgrade later, but then again I don't need anything extremely fancy. I do like the id...
