Hi MrBaz! I'm one of your fellow PPFC players. Guess which one? Anyway, as a clue, if I am playing C# on my flute (not a particularly nice one, but it would take robbing a bank to afford a new one on my current income) I will have my right hand fingers down. While you have a pet peeve with alternate...

Yup, old flutes.

I play a 30 year old Artley and before that (for only two years or so) I played a Bundy.

I vote Artley.

Definitely Artley.

Keep the Bundy in case the Artley breaks or if you want to play fetch with your dog.

A good compromise is to agree to a short period of time to "get them started." I have an old (1978) flute with no split-E. Back then, they didn't have split-E's (however they did have Pacman, Pong, low-powered microwaves, and we just got cable TV service in the neighborhood). Anyway, try playing that high-E with your right pinky up. That might help some. It's just a booger of ...

Actually there are meds that can dry out a mouth. I've got a really wet mouth (or so two different dentists have told me). The one I currently go to now just has that little vacuum thing going all the time with me. The other one gave me pills to take before I came in to dry me out. Don't remember wh...

Yup, use the pinky key. It DOES matter. Right now, it doesn't seem to, but it does. Also, you'll look stupid to better flute players if you keep that pinky up when it should be down. You want to both SOUND good and LOOK smart, right? Oh, also on that high-E (on three ledger lines) you might find tha...

I haven't had that problem UNLESS I've been playing a straight alto. Perhaps you need to deliberately go through some relaxation exercises before playing (and maybe during!). Sounds like you might be tensing up. Also, if you are a tiny person, you might consider a curved headjoint for your flute. Ju...
