Re: Inspirational classical music

Thanks! Reminded me of some that I love, and ideas to listen to others I've never heard. Exactly what I wanted!

Inspirational classical music

Hey y'all, decided to catch up on my listening this summer, so I've been taking the time to sit and enjoy my classical collection. Just finished 1812 overture and, as usual, I had goose bumps throughout the performance. My normal "goose-bumpy" pieces include: 1812 overture Rite of spring Ride of the...

Harmonics

Hey everybody! Haven't been here for a while, and I'm surprised at how little discussion there is lately. I'm glad the old regulars are still here, which is who I want to address my question to ( alto I don't mind anybody else chiming in too)! Question -- exactly what is the reason to practice harmo...

Re: solo suggestions

Hmm ... just listened to it. I prefer solos that have a distinct melody line, but thanks for the suggestion!

buyer beware

I am so angry over this story that I wanted to share it as a warning for the flute community! I have friend who wanted a really good hand made instrument. She had purchased a gold headjoint from a very well known flute maker (I will not slander his name here but if you want to know who he is, PM me)...

solo suggestions

Don't know if any body can help but .... I tend to like solo pieces that are unique, not the ones you hear everybody play. My two favorites that I've done in my last two recitals are "hysterical penguins" and " ... and the strange unknown flowers". Both have lots of color and emotion. Also love most...

Re: Flute repertoire

Try the kuhlau pieces -- there are solo as well as duets that are a lot of fun.

Re: Trevor Wye's "tone colours"

Before I went back to school I had never heard of "colors" in playing. Then my teacher started talking about them, but never really explained how to achieve these different shades. It was very frustrating. Then a fellow student told me that she thinks of the colors as vowel sounds rather than colors...

I'd be interested in an opinion also. Thought about purchasing before but never got around to it.

Re: College Auditions

Both are pretty well known repertoire and if played well would be good audition material. Good luck!

Re: Update on fluting

Hey y'all! :) such a nice welcome! I hope y'all listen to the hysterical penguins and let me know what you think. It is SO cool! It goes up to E4!!!!!!! I ordered "and the strange unknown flowers" today to start working on pieces for my next recital. Thought that one was really neat too. Just hope I...
