Salud! For me, the understanding of the open throat concept was a major breakthrough. What I thought was "It's like opening the faucet". Just open up and exhale all your air, with no impedement in the throat, tongue, teeth, lips, nothing. Just open the faucet and exhale all your hot air in one great...

It depends on your budget and aspirations, I suppose.

Salud! My teacher also thinks the 2nd octave should be incorporated much earlier, and so do most beginner's books. There I am now, trying to get a clean midrange tone (I have no problem with the lower octave). Wye also introduces a lot of scales and time signatures early on, to avoid "calcifyng" the...

Salud! Trevor Wye starts from B1, and from there he goes down to G1, then C2, then down to D1, then D2-up. He says the low register is the basis for obtaining a good tone. This is his order of presentation (Beginner's book for the flute, Part One): B1 A1 G1 C2 G1 sharp F1 E1 B1 flat F1 sharp E1 flat...

Salud! p.s. looking at a RØDE NT1-A, not sure of the amp yet. Just have to go play through them like you suggested. I recently bought a RODE NT2A. When looking for a mic, everybody talked me out of the NT1A as clearly inferior to mics like Studio Electronics SE2200A (in the same price range). I chos...

My teacher corrects me many times because I turn the flute too much inwards, so I've started to turn the headjoint a bit outwards from the standard position. I'mhappier now.

Sorry, I'm very new to the flute. What is a leaking key? A key that lets some air out even when closed?

Ok, thanks a lot. I don't have to, so there will be no problem. Water is healthier, anyway.

Coke and the flute

Salud!

I really like Coca-cola (OK, I admit I'm addicted to it) and I really like practicing the flute (OK, I admit I'm addicted to it, too).

Could there be any problem with my instrument if I drink Coke while practicing?

Chel, I had similar problems with holding the flute on some notes like C2 (I started playing a month ago), but it's just a matter of days getting your hands accostumed to it.
