"Moderate Difficulty" Flute Concerti?

I have 7-8 months to prepare a concerto for my school's concerto competition, so it's not like I want to go in playing Baa Baa Black Sheep for Flute and Orchestra. Buuuut, I don't think I'd be able to prepare something along the lines of Ibert or Nielsen either. So far I'm looking at Hue, Griffes, a...

Re: Sterling silver or silver plated nickel mechanism?

Thanks! I figure the sterling silver is a little heavier, no? But there is a noticeable difference in the sound too?

Sterling silver or silver plated nickel mechanism?

I'm looking into purchasing a new flute - either a Miyazawa Classic or 402 series - and the only difference that I see in the prices of them is that the Classic is a good $3,000 more because of the fact that it has a sterling silver mechanism instead of the silver plated nickel mechanism that the 40...

Mozart concerto in G - second movement

Why is it that the second movement of Mozart's concerto in G major is in D major? Just realized this today and I find it kind of funny since he had written the D major after.

SaxyShanny - AND we both have pictures with Greg Pattillo. Although I don't have it as my default...

PiccoloShorty - I could be doing it wrong, but that's just giving me a really sharp G. I kind of worded it wrong- G# to A (the piece I was looking at is played from A down to G#)

A to G#/Ab trill?

HELP.

Other than the unconventional way of just fingering A to G#/Ab, is there an easier way (without a C# trill)?

I know about the alternate fingering, but does it have that same effect that a D2 or E2 would have when you leave your left pinky on?

What note is this?

left hand: pointer finger, middle finger, ring finger, pinky right hand: middle finger, ring finger, pinky I was just fooling around on my piccolo and came across this strange note. I couldn't find it on any fingering chart, and when I tried to recognize the note on my tuner, the arrow shifted back ...

Debussy Afternoon of a Faun Faure Fantasie Gaubert Nocturne et Allegro Scherzando Périlhou Ballade I actually picked up Faun today (when I initially went to pick up Mozart's Concerto No. 1 in G), as I just found it through their library, and it was only $8. Problem was with the concerto, my mom had...

Which piece is more difficult?

Mozart Concerto in G or in D?

I've listened to both (because I have to learn one for an audition), and to me it sounds like D is a bit more challenging. What's your opinion? Also, which one do you personally like better?

1) What group do you play for? I play in my school's marching band, concert band, and I'm auditioning for jazz band next year. I'm also auditioning for my town's youth symphony (I auditioned and made it a few years back, but I didn't make principal, I made concert so I didn't do it. I don't know why...

Happened to me :/ Well, somewhat. I asked Secch if I could be in jazz maybe, oh, my sophomore year. And he said "Sure, you just need to learn sax by auditions (which where later that week) but I could have you featured soloing on flute for a song or two." Needless to say, it didn't work out. But I'm...

For concert band (since I don't have time to join my town's symphony :(), we wear white button ups with black pants or skirts. Personally, I think it's a little juvenile looking, since that's the same uniform that the middle schools perform in, and the other high school in my town just wears all bla...

Beatboxing?

I'm sure (if you're an avid youtube watcher like myself), that you've seen/heard of Greg Pattillo, a very good flute beatboxer (fluteboxer? and if you haven't heard of him, click here to see a video of him remixing the Inspector Gadget theme). Anyway, have any of you tried this fun and unique way of...

Okay, thank you. Yeah, that one's closer than the one in New Jersey. I was just kind of iffy about it, since the one in New Jersey is for high school students only, as opposed to the Baker one, which is all ages. I think I was just intimidated about going to a class with people with so much more exp...
