Re: When will the "light come on" with my embouchure?
I would love to try some different headjoints, but how would I go about doing this? Wouldn't this be expensive since I would want to try out more than one? What kind would I be looking for?

Re: When will the "light come on" with my embouchure?
Thanks for all of the wonderful comments. I always get great feedback from this forum. My teacher tells me that I am making progress. She commented that adult students are usually very hard on themselves. She played my flute (Yamaha YFL-221 under a year old) and says my high register issues could be...

When will the "light come on" with my embouchure?
I am an older adult who has been taking flute lessons for approximately 3 years. I have a wonderful flute teacher who is very patient with me. I continue to struggle with tension in my embouchure as I play in the higher register. I can envision how much fun I should be having when playing the flute....

Re: No progress on higher register - is it the flute or is i
Thanks for the suggestions for the higher register. I have recently tried a different flute and found that the higher notes are easier to play. I was playing a Gemeinhardt 2SH. I am now trying a Yamaha YFL221 and find that it is also lighter. I am considering buying it (just renting it now) and tryi...

Re: No progress on higher register - is it the flute or is i
I have decent tone in the low and middle registers. I have tried very hard not to roll the flute inward on the upper register. How much harder should I blow in the higher register? I get conflicting advice on this. Should I have a noticeably strong stream of air with the higher register? I thought i...

Re: No progress on higher register - is it the flute or is i
My flute is a Gemeinhardt 2SH. When I bought it in 2009, it was a year old. I have kept it maintained and feel that it is in good working order. I have been using Trevor Wye's tone book and basically going through the exercises for middle and high registers. I don't have too many options for flute t...

No progress on higher register - is it the flute or is it me
I have been playing the flute for two years. I am very discouraged because I am still having a great deal of difficulty with the tone quality of notes in the higher register. At what point do I say this just isn't for me? I love the flute, but it is no longer fun. My teacher is supportive and has en...

How do I know if it is a leaky footjoint? I just had it serviced on September when I bought it. It is two years old. I am sure the music store would love to charge me another $75 to "check it out". I can play the B and A but below that is impossible. Can it be attributed to embouchure? It sounds sup...

Lower register used to be easy - now difficult???
I have been taking flute lessons for 7 months. From the beginning, the lower register has been fairly easy. I am just now progressing to the R3 notes. Almost overnight, my lower register notes are very windy and difficult to play. This has been an issue for the last several days and I don't know tha...

Embouchure tips for adult beginner
Thanks for the support. I AM impatient. However, I practice every day between 30 minutes and 1 hour. Sometimes, it is so breathy that it is painful to hear. My teacher is supportive, but doesn't offer any advice other than it will get easier.

Adult Beginner Requests Help with Embouchure
I have been taking private lessons for about 4 months. I am having difficulty getting the higher notes to sound true and not windy!! I have watched dozens of Jennifer Cluff and Galway videos and read many techniques. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong (or what I need to do right)? It seems th...
