Re: College Audition
The thing is, this a very relaxed audition. I am not going to be a music major, but a nursing major. The only reason I am considering doing this is for scholarship purposes.

College Audition
So, I have until May 31, 2013 to audition for a college that I really want to go to. The requirements are as listed: - 5 major scales of the player's choice - Chromatic scale - 2 contrasting pieces (Lyrical and technical) What scales would you pick? What pieces would you play? I'm pretty sure that I...

Preparing ahead for college auditions...
So when I return to high school, it will thankfully be for the last year. Yay! I'm a senior. :D I'm not sold on the whole college deal, but I'd like to try out for a few colleges. :? Each college says to have all 12 scales 2-3 octaves memorized, chromatic full-range and 2 contrasting pieces demonstr...

Re: Wisdom Teeth: The Flute and Dry Socket
I had my wisdom teeth cut out last December. My oral surgeon told me to not pick my flute back up for at least a month because, as you see, it will cause dry socket. I think I'd leave it alone for a month, but always do what your doctor advises. Hope everything works out!

Re: Flute-only choir
I, myself, am not a fan of flute choirs. I much rather prefer flute and piano or even just two flutes. Most of the time I'd rather listen to a soloist than hear the racket of too many flutes trying to out play each other. Individuality, in my opinion, is key and you can still express that with an ac...

Breath Support
I need help with my breath support because for some reason it is terrible. I am now finding 4 measure phrases hard and that has NEVER been an issue for me! So, does anyone have any suggestions on how to build up better and stronger breath support? And please, tell me anything but long tones. (I hear...

Half Time Show Ideas
Okay guys, I need some help. Since I've been in high school band, I usually influence my opinion of half time shows for marching band. Last season we did music from Journey and the year before that we did the Beach Boys. I was wondering if you guys had any ideas for what we could play for the next s...

Re: Solo Night
Okay guys, I hope you all will have responded by tomorrow so I can make my decision. Solo night is May 5th and I want to change my song for solo night to Time to Say Goodbye...Andrea Bocelli sang it. My question is this: if I can get my hands on this piece this week, will I have time to have learned...

Solo Night
Our band started a tradition last year that all members who wish to participate can play a solo of their choice. If any of you guys have seen Legends of the Fall with Brad Pit in it, I'm playing the themesong The Ludlows - otherwise known as Twilight and Mist. (and no, this song has no connection wi...

Re: ...Some flute players are better than others, causing dr
Thank you so much for all of the responses. The sad part is player 2 hasn't said anything about her part being traded and player 3 doesn't know what is going on. Double reed just likes to start stuff, obviously. Anyway, I told my assistant band director. She says we'll either make the duet a solo OR...

...Some flute players are better than others, causing drama
So for the past week I've had a third flute play a first flute part with me because I'm section leader and I am allowed to make those decisions. The second flute has missed band rehersals and completely zones out in class everyday, not seeming to care at all about what is going on. A girl from the d...

Re: Yet another question....drum major stuff
Oh what an imagination, Fluteguy; think that was the best remark I've heard in well, ever. My band director approached me this week and asked me to please try out for drum major. He has a friend that could give me lessons, so I guess I might try.
Thanks guys.
Thanks guys.

Yet another question....drum major stuff
I apologize, I apologize, I apologize. I feel horrible for always asking so many questions. A band parent recently contacted my mother and told her that I would be a good candidate for drum major next year. I would love to try out but there is a problem: I'll be a junior next year and there ar...

Asking the same question...again
Sorry guys, I know you're tired of this question but the next marching season will be here before we know it and I feel the need to ask again: How can I get more people, high schoolers particularly, involved in band. Our main needs are percussion, trombones, clarinets, mellophone, and maybe another ...
