I finally received Trevor James privilege II and CE-winds flutes. Both are open hole offset-G, B-hoot with gizmo. silver plated. Trevor James has solid silver lip plate, too. Both had the plugs for the holes (I took them out, though). Both came with french case. Unfortunately, CE-Winds arrived with ...

I have a Yamaha Allegro 471 flute. It's amazing. lol Everyone in my high school band is amazed by the fact that it has gold on it. Our local music store had a guy that let me try it before I bought it. It took awhile to get used to because it was a better flute than the one I had before. When I bou...

My Yamaha costed me about $2,000 but I got it with a piccolo as a bundle deal. I bought mine from a local music store that was having a Christmas special; it was one of the only Yamaha's they had. The tone is perfect and is sounding better every day. :) Good for you ! :) Which model did you get? Bu...

Actually, I have a cheep flute - and it sound pretty good for the price - around $150, I believe. I'm saving for a a $500 yamaha, though. The only problem with cheep flutes are that the tone in itself lacks that sweet tune a flute should have, and the screws do very weird things (good thing my brot...

I know u have played some of the cheaper ebay flutes, but have you ever played say a brannen, pearl hand-made, powell? I had the chance to play an entire line-up of brannens in boston when i visited their office. An assortment of platinum, gold, silver flutes and about 15 headjoints of various comp...

Sounds like you enjoy collecting flutes. Have you thought of buying other flutes from the flute family? I have an Alto, and a friend of mine as an Alto, Bass, and Contra Bass. Here's a picture of her playing it at one of the flute fests I host at my house: I know there are interesting instruments. ...

I had an occasion to touch and play a bit wooden flute of him, and it was nice. It's owned by a professional flutist and she said all good things about the flute and him. The keys (open hole) were very light and nice (and thin). The fingers just fit so well on them, a bit like my Yamaha hand made pr...

A confession of a FLuteholic
Hi, my name is Walter. And I'm a fluteholic. I love flutes and I'm buying them, playing them, adjusting and polishing them. I'm spending all my over-time pay (and more) for flute and flute related material. I don't have a life. I can't have one because my babies (flutes) are crying and asking me to ...

There is another alternative. When I was a kid, I used to play a plastic fife, among other instrument like trumpet and mini clarinet. And I think this prepared me to play a flute, later. I was playing trumpet in high school jazz band, and I tried a flute of my friend, on day. And it was so natural t...

I just bought yet another flute (CE-Brand Alpha series. Another $132 + shipping.).... I have a weakness when it comes to an open hole flute, especially new one, and this one has B-foot, too. I think it's a Chinese flute , again, similar to my FAKE Yamaha 271. But I'm not worried so much because I do...

Unless you want to be a professional, or you want to blend into a JAM session, or your band director wants you to play a new piece of music without any prior practice, I don't think it's absolutely necessary to learn to play very well at the first glance of music sheet you never seen before. I can r...

I'm still waiting two more flutes, one is Artley (supposedly) solid silver flute, and another one is the most expensive (but still $265 + shipping) Trever-James Privilege II, which can be my last one in this trial IF I can resist the desire to try out wooden flutes .... (but they are a lot more expe...

My experience was similar. However, there is a big difference between playability, and durability. Once everything is adjusted, most of these cheap flutes will play ok. Another issue is the ability to do your own adjustments. Most people that get sucked into buying these cheap instruments have no i...
