Re: Playing Technique: Starts
using the lips to articulate or using the tongue against the lips are just other articulation techniques. i've always thought they were pretty advanced though, normally you start a student off with basic "tu" or "du" (or "ta" or "te" or whatever vowel people want to use) tonguing as it is by far use...

Re: Octaves
There are 17 billion pieces for flute at all different levels that do not require those terribly high notes. What is the point of teaching the flute to someone but not allowing them to play any pieces until they have everything? As a teacher of student at a wide range of playing levels, that doesn't...

Re: Hammig Piccolo for sale
thanks zevang! I really love it and agree haha. It's a Phillip Hammig piccolo :) To answer your questions, Flutego12: (1) What is the difference between this Philpp Hammig (famous conservatoire level) and the August Richard Hammigs & Johannes Gerhard Hammigs in the professional range? I have no idea...

Re: Antique Flutes and an Ivory Piccolo
I know this is a very late reply, but the best way to know the value is to try to find someone who is an expert in historical flutes and can accurately evaluate their worth. They actually could be worth a lot, or not too much at all… Like FluteGuy18 was saying, it all depends on what condition they'...

Hammig Piccolo for sale
Hi guys, I haven't posted on this forum in ages!!! I used to be a regular, but started playing baroque flute about 16 months ago and ended up making a permanent switch form modern to baroque, and then got so caught up in my studies I never had a chance to get back on this forum. I really miss it! AN...

Re: Yamaha 674 or my old Muramatsu
your old mura could be in need of a service even?
for me i would never choose a yamaha over a muramatsu, but at the same time we all have our own preferences. and also your point about silver flutes is important - you might really looove solid silver muramatsus (or other makes)! or not

totally agree with pied_piper. they're teachers - it's their job to teach you musical knowledge and skills! that's why you would go to them. good luck

i don't know where you live but i absolutely swear by lucas's paw paw ointment. i don't know where it's available - i live in australia. it's incredible. it's originally for putting onto things like rashes, burns, chafing, cuts, cracked skin, splinters, insect bites, open wounds so it's really reall...

Re: Which flute to get?
I would recommend the muramatsu, hands down, any day. but it's all about what suits you in the end. but if you want to go muramatsu, why go for the ex? why not go with a GX if not the DS?

that's really something you would need to talk to the school about… every school will have slightly different requirement and standards so you need to ask the school about applying and requirements etc

Re: Flute Problems
you're supposed to get flutes serviced once a year anyway, so definitely get it checked out by a top flute technician - it's really worth it if they can fix it for you! you own't have these problems any more :) although… don't shoot me for saying this, but sometimes things just get old and don't wor...

Re: miyazawa MZ-7 platinum riser - room for growth?
i think, just in the way they are built, miyazawa headjoints are harder to play than yamaha anyway but do get better in the long run results so keep working i think it's worth it.

Re: It's winter; bad lips = total failure
i know this isn't exactly scientific… but i always feel like the cold starts to freeze my lip muscles, lol. point is that i do reckon the cold doesn't help your muscles move properly. like if you're gonna go for a run and it's freezing cold, if you don't at least stretch first then it's really hard ...
