Silver head joint or new open hole flute?

Hello, I joined this forum a couple of years ago as a beginner. I am now getting a bit better and joined a local band. A couple of people in my band say open holed sounds better but others say to invest in a really good head joint. One has a super expensive head joint on a closed hole Yamaha 211. To...

Re: Miyazawa or Altus?

I did exactly the same as you! About a year ago I wanted to upgrade from my Yamaha 211. I read about flutes and went to a shop. I tried both the Miyazawa and the Altus in a blind test and picked the Altus.

New Flute :)

Hello,

I've just bought a new flute! It's an Altus 807. I am so pleased with it! It was a special treat to myself for getting a job. (My first job after 5 years of being a stay at home mum).

Problem with G major arpeggio

Hello, I have learnt that the notes for the G major arpeggio are GBDGDBG but have trouble going from the G to B. The ring finger on my left hand moves first so the A note sounds slightly and messes up the scale when I am trying to slur. It's not so noticable while tounging. Any advice would be appre...

How strict are they in a Grade 1 exam?

Hello, I am preparing for my Grade 1 exam. I haven't had to do exams since graduating in 1998 so I am a little nervous! Can you tell me how strict they are when marking? I have been practicing 3 pieces to play and I can play them so I hit the right notes but forget to go loud and soft in the right p...

Thank you. I did get my flute serviced as I worried about it being up in the loft for so long. Luckily it didn't need much doing but they obviously did something good because I can now play the low C which I couldn't before!

New flute player

Hello! I'm new to this board and also to flute playing. I bought a flute (Yamaha 211) about 6 years ago and started taking lessons. I was getting ready to take my first flute exam but then my flute teacher moved away. My flute ended up in the loft and I forgot about it for a while. Finally got it do...
