Flute and dark sadness?
Recently i've been listening to the Elgar cello concerto. It is such a wonderful piece. I am a big fan of jacqueline du pre. Back on topic, i was discussing with a friend why the cello can do very emotional works, like the elgar concerto. That got me thinging about the flute and darkness. Is the flu...

Re: Is this a good school?
What do you want to major in? What do you want to do (career wise) with your life? Two important questions to ask before deciding... Performance. I want to teach privately, and hopefully join a bigger orchestra. My flute teacher now always talks about how she wishes things would have worked out dif...

Is this a good school?
I recently went on vacation to the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and I fell in love with the campus. I haven't talked to the flute professor yet, but I plan to as soon as I can. He is a Miyazawa artist, and he sounds fantastic in their audio. Is it a good school to go to, or shoul...

Re: Help decide a flute concerto for competition?
It depends all on your playing ability and how much you're willing to work on it. There's Reinecke, which is pretty and romantic. I think advanced high schoolers can definitely play this piece. I think this concerto is a very good option. There's Nielsen...which is not something every advanced HS c...

Help decide a flute concerto for competition?
I had originally planned to do the Hisatada Otaka flute concerto op.30b, but it is permanently out of print, and I cant find it anywhere else. It depresses me a lot. I really like the concerto. :( Anyways, I am entering a competition in December. I have to perform a concerto or a piece written for f...

Re: Critiquing on my recital performance?
I had my recital today, and I played Honnegar's Danse de la Chevre and Vivaldi's Flute Concerto in g Minor "la Notte". I know we were off on occasion in spots, but overall I am fairly happy with the result. There were judges there, so I will be critiqued by them, but I wouldnt some from the flutela...

Question about Mozart Flute Concerto in D?
I'm working on the first movement for a competition in December-ish, they haven't released the dates yet, And me and my flute teacher cant tell what Allegro Aperto is supposed to mean. We know the translation, but that's about it. I am in love with this piece, and am very comfortable with it right n...

Re: Question about colleges
In my humble opinion, a flute performance major candidate should focus more on the teacher than the school. Many fine music schools/departments may not have the teacher that is right for you. When working on a performance degree it is absolutely essential that you have a teacher who brings the best...

Re: Do you need an associates for a double major of pef. and
It is really hard to do. I actually know one person who managed to double major in Music Performance and Music Education in four years and be in the honors program... but she is definitely an exception and not a rule. Honestly I think most people underestimate how much work majoring in music really...

Re: Do you need an associates for a double major of pef. and
In almost 100% of cases where you go into music ed, you will need a BM (Bachelor's of Music) from an accredited institution. That means that NASM (The National Association of the Schools of Music) have approved of the institution, and the institution adheres to their regulations/standards. I honest...

Do you need an associates for a double major of pef. and ed?
My flute teacher brought up a topic that is troubling me. I dont remember how exactly she worded it, but she said getting my associates in music will be a waste of time and money. They wont teach the same classes or something like that, like i said i dont remember exactly what she said. What is your...
