piccolos

I was just wondering what a good piccolo brand is that sells all metal piccolos I could use for marching band. I got one for las year to see if I could play it and it was soo bad. It was very flat and very hard to play *like you had to blow a lung out to hit a 3rd octave F* So I don''t wish to repea...

my flute turns me black.....

my lesson teacher said you hsould only use the cloth with the polish on it like every once in awhiel cuz that's what it does. My friend went crazy with hers when she got her new flute and now that happens to her everyday. So she has to get it gold plated cuz she can't stop it. So I suggest just usin...

Chair Postions

here's how we do our chair auditions. During marching band we sit where ever. Christmas concert section leaders choose what you play. Spring concert our director hands out music. You go learn it then he has you play for him. This decides your seating. Then if you get mopved up you get new music and ...

Saxophones

i find trumpets more annoying too..ours are like nazis during marching season acting like they're all good, when they cant hold a note..then in concetr band they're even worse..so I guess they kinda like to talk trash a lot. I was at district band auditions and saxes were walkign around the library ...

Why are flutes marching bands

I'm in marching band. And flutes can be heard when they play things in the higher octaves and yea the piccolos are heard too. My band has about 5 pics and the other 6 play flute. I do know a band however that had one picc and you could hear it above ALL the other players...it was kinda odd because o...

Marching

I'm in my 2nd year of marching band. So I agree that you should have 2 flutes while marching because in marching band you always have the risk of it getting wet or falling off bleachers and stuff. I used my old flute when I did it before I switched to piccolo for this season. I also agree with keepi...

Piccolo - Reality Check

I just started playing the piccolo about 6 months ago too. I wanted to offer a few words of encouragement. Though I am only in 10th grade, I'vee been playing the fltue for 6 years now and have decided to try my luck with the piccolo for marching band. It is hard to get the higher notes out on a picc...

Huh? Questions

Hey- I just wanted to say that I think it's awesome how your kids can improve so quickly. I'm in 10th grade and I just thought it was interesting to read all of these posts. I'm juts starting vibrato now and for me it's good to know that it's normal not to grasp it right away..but I'm getting better...

IS the only way you can improve your breath
support and how long you can go without breathing long tones? Or is there
another option too? I have district band in less than a month and I wanted ot
improve all that before I tried out, any suggestions?

Quick question

Okay I was just wondering about my piccolo. I can get to an 3rd octave G on mine but on others I can get all the way up to a B natural. Do you think it could be the quality of the instruemnts or the pads or something that is causing mine ot be harder to play than my friends? I''m finding this very f...

The Maid of the Mist

Does anyone have helpful suggestions on how to attepmt this piece..it''s written so it looks hand written and the ledger lines are slanted and the stems dont touch the note heads and the notes in spaces arent directly above the line but kinda in the middle. I''m having some trouble reading it since ...

Playing Outside

I don't think temperature or anyhitng will affect it.
I had the lovely pleasure this year in marhcing in a Christmas parade and it was
so cold that my spit that was coming out the bottom of it froze into
icicles..and it all still worked fine. Have fun playing Sunday![:p]

stars and stripes forever

I totally understand about the ending to that song. We're playing that in our Spring concert and I was looking over the piccolo part and it looks tough..I think working on it in the lower octave is okay but i know for me it is sometimes harder to take it up the octave after i learned it down..especi...
