For Music Majors (past & soon to be) a question
Teacher states that for flute it is best to apply to at least 10 colleges. For those of you that have been down this road or are heading there soon, please share the numbers and anything related to the "adventure" that may be helpful to us or others. 10 sounds pretty overwhelming. We did five or six...

Re: Brannen 15/85 with Lafin head or handmade Powell 14k hea
The solid silver Brannen is an excellent flute, however with her hj (it's a silver Nagahara with gold lip and plat riser) it just was not a good match for her. It may have worked well for her coach, we just don't know. Requirement #1 for us was that the marriage of the head we bought a while ago to ...

Re: Brannen 15/85 with Lafin head or handmade Powell 14k hea
We just went through the process to upgrade the body for my D's flute. As mentioned bringing several in is the best way to accomplish this, especially if you already have a headjoint you are happy with. We tested other heads as well just to compare and contrast. We are choosing the 15/85 Brannen bod...

Re: Advice on attending NFA
Thanks for all the information. The next questions we would appreciate an opinion on are: How to address all the potential teachers that my d would like to make contact with at the NFA (i.e. Should all individuals be addressed as Dear Professor Jones, or Ms / Mr Jones) I realize this could be seen a...

Advice / Advantages of new flute purchase for college
Greetings We are considering purchasing a new (or another better used) flute body for our daughter. Given what she plays on now (very good hj and old well maintained Muramatsu body) and what we are looking at, we expect the price to be between 12 - 18K As we bring these flutes in for trial, the diff...

Re: Head joints
For what it is worth my daughter plays on a Muramatsu AD (much like the DS of today). We upgraded the HJ last year and looked at about 20 or so. In the end it was Mancke vs Nagahara. The Nagahara was purchased (silver, gold lip and platinum riser). Worth every dime as it was a great match for the Mu...

Re: Unsure if I'm where I'm supposed to be (going to college
First - best of luck to you! Hopefully you are near a point where you are choosing the college that you will attend in the fall. My older daughter is in her third year as a music ed major and when she auditioned was accepted only to two schools for the music ed program due to auditions that went poo...

Advice on attending NFA
Greetings all. I will be taking my daughter to the NFA Convention this year in Charlotte NC. I would appreciate any advice as to how to make best use of the time you have while at the convention. She will be a high school junior in the fall, and intends to major in flute performance in college. Asid...
