Crisp, clean notes can work (as in money) or I use cigarette paper, rizzla ones. Insert them in the key and hold the key down for a bit then take them out and hopefully the paper will have absorbed the moisture. The other option is yamaha does some papers specifically for this purpose....or powder p...

I was taught the one on one fingering for Bb and don't particularly like the thumb key fingering. My flute teacher when I was doing my grade 8 wanted told me I had to use the thumb key in a specific passage in the third movement of the Poulenc flute sonata. She wanted me to play this passage to her ...

Er, is marching band an US thing? The only one I've seen here doesn't accept woodwinds. hmmm yes!! In England, if they do exist they certainly aren't known that well, please correct me if I'm wrong!!! We generally have wind bands, wind ensembles, concert bands, orchestras, brass bands, jazz bands e...

Im female. In my secondary school (high school to most of you I assume) there were only 2 male flautists over the 7 years I was there. Now studying music at university there are only girls majoring on the flute and in our university wind band there is only 1 guy. I agree there have been stereotypes ...

Ah ok, I see what you mean...in that case put slurs in where you feel they will enhance the emotion of the music. Celtic music is gorgeous when played properly and the right parts emphasised. This happens when you really feel the music so play through them and where you feel there should be a slur p...

Hey, generally any note without a slur sign over it should be lightly tongued, then heavier if accented or staccato. If the notes have a slur marking over them then you tongue the first note of the set of slurred notes (if that makes sense!). You always need to tongue the first of the slurred notes....

can't say I've ever heard that and to be honest, no matter how similar a piccolo and a fife are I think I'd resent being called something I'm not.

Hey, I don't know what dollars translates in to english pounds....but I use a sankyo etude, open holed, offset g, and solid silver head joint which I got for £1700. Interestingly when I was shopping for my flute (bought about 5 years ago now) I was told to steer clear of the professional range yamah...

I think I'd probably agree with you there! Seems to make perfect sense and since I'm from England it would explain why I don't think I've heard of a flutist. In my parents ancient dictionary it has both flautist and flutist....flautist means a flute player.....flutist means a player on the flute (ex...
