Happy Birthday, MeLizzard! I'll be 35 this fall, so no one is laughing here! I definitely remember 1981. I started playing my alto sax in about 1981 also, and played through HS graduation. Didn't pick up an instrument again until a year ago when I picked up my old flute that I had just played around...

They have some for free, and others that you can purchase for a minimal price. You can become a member for around $30 and then download a ton of music.

My primary instrument was alto sax, and it's a ton of fun to play! I pretty much taught myself to play flute, and yes, it's very easy to master the fingerings. It's the different emboucheres are what takes a bit of getting used to. good luck!

Sharp in the 3rd octave

I'm just getting back into playing more. I'm playing with my church choir with vocalists and a piano/organ and sometimes guitar. We've noticed that I'm sharp when I play C6 and above. Is it my embouchere that is out of whack? Or something else? Any suggestions for staying in tune would be wonderful....

Breaking in a new instrument

I've read somewhere that when you get a brand new flute, you need to break it in by playing it for a few minutes each day, and work up to an hour, etc. Is this true? Or can I just pick up a new one and play right away for as long as I'm itching to?

Thanks!

RH Pinky Placement

OK, so I have a question. I was an old HS alto sax player, who taught myself how to play flute (as most of you probably know, the fingerings are very similar) among other instruments many years ago. Now, that I've picked my flute up again after about 15 years to play at church, I'm forgetting some t...

That's funny - that's how I feel. My husband just laughs when I come up from practicing saying that my mouth is tired! I'm hoping that it will get easier. Fortunately, church music is not up in the stratosphere!

I'm new to the list too. I played a long time ago, but recently started again... I played alto sax through HS, and played flute just for fun, but now, over 15 years later, I'm playing again in my church choir (flute, not sax  ) as I was missing music. It's taking a lot of practice to get my emb...
