Upgrading Headjoint

I am a college flute student (a music minor at a school that has a tremendous music department) playing on a Sankyo Silver Sonic flute that I bought at the beginning of my junior year in high school. It's in excellent playing condition (just had a COA) and I generally consider it to be a pretty good...

Burton Sonatina, Doppler Fantaisie Pastorale Hongroise, and Telemann Fantasy in d minor. I like all of them.

When I was younger, I used to get so nervous playing for other people in ensemble settings...even if they were my friends. I used to get myself so worked up for solos that I would feel the exact same way you describe. Are you sure it's not just nerves? How comfortable are you playing for others?

I think you're right fluteguy. I bought a Yamah-62 piccolo from Flute World about a year ago...and they did all of that. But, I had already pretty much made up my mind that this was the piccolo I wanted, so it was the only piccolo that I took out (mainly because I had played on one before and loved ...

Haha, it's a little bit late now. I ended up getting wait-listed this year. I'm going to stay on the wait-list for a little bit before I find something else to do this summer. It seems like a great place, though!

Piano

Hey, I was recently accepted to Ithaca College for Music Ed. I have pretty much decided that this is where I am going to go next year. For all the music ed majors here (Ithaca or not)...how much piano skill would you recommend having to begin your freshman year? I'm not completely helpless when it c...

Trill Question

For Pennsylvania's All-State Wind Ensemble music this year, we're playing the Barber Commando March, which is awesome . . . but pretty difficult. Does anyone know of a really fantastic way to trill high Bb to high C? It's a sustained trill, and I've been fingering it using the F#3 with the thumb Bb ...

I never practice for longer than 30 minutes at once....unless it's really, really urgent. I lose focus after that amount of time, so there is no point. I just spread my practice time over the entire day.

I have a C# trill on my Sankyo Silver Sonic, and I wouldn't exactly call my flute top of the line, but it's definitely a solid instrument that I love. C# trill keys are amazing, I couldn't live without mine!

Interlochen Summer Music Program

I was just wondering if any high schoolers had auditioned for the summer wind ensemble and orchestra program at Interlochen, or if anyone else had any experience with this. I'm starting my search for a summer program for this year, and this one seems pretty solid. Any info. on exactly how selective ...

I think my biggest struggle is getting myself to stand up and get my flute out. Once I get it out and start playing everything is great, but sometimes it's hard to just get myself going!

Don't worry about me and preparation! I've been working on my program for auditions (Martin Ballade, Duvernoy Concertino, Bach b Minor Sonata, Mozart D, and excerpts) since the summer (hours a day!). Thanks for your positive wishes!! :D
