Re: Alto Flute question

Just wanted to mention that a great way to possibly get some playing time on alto flute without necessarily having to own one would be to join a flute choir.

Re: E mechanism in Alto flutes

Just wanted to say that split E's do exist in the alto world. My Altus alto has that feature, but, then again, it cost close to three times what a Pearl or Trevor James alto does. The split E feature is nice, but hardly a necessity. I agree with the advice of picking the instrument that works the be...

Re: Earth for Flute and Piano

Thanks for the heads up on Regrets and Resolutions. Ordered it as well as Winter Jasmine (also by Gary Shocker) yesterday, and got the music today (the advantage to living in the same state as Carolyn Nussbaum Music Company). Can't wait to start working on it. It's been almost a year since I got Ear...

Re: Vintage Artley Student Model Flute early serial #

Pictures would definitely help. I am wondering, from your description, and the person telling you it was in a "funny" key, if you don't have an Eb soprano flute. Most Eb flutes are two-piece instruments. It would also help it you could give us the assembled length of the instrument. Even in rough sh...

Re: Poor Tone in Higher Register on Bass Flute

I forgot to mention, that almost all of the chamber music we played at the Alto and Bass Flute Retreat last year was written for C flute. And it sounded gorgeous when played on bass.

Re: Poor Tone in Higher Register on Bass Flute

Dean- As an also average amateur flute player who owns a Pearl bass flute, I thought I'd give you my thoughts. First of all, the bass flute is a pretty different beast than the c flute. Whereas, IMHO, most folks can pick up an alto flute, having never played one, and sound pretty good from the start...

Re: Earth for Flute and Piano

To me, it was. Here is a listing of songs in the book: Sicilienne by Gabriel Faure Cavatina (Main Theme from "The Deer Hunter" by Stanley Myeres Meditation de "Thais" by Jules Massenet Planys by Federico Mompou Romanze in A Major by Robert Schumann Romance by Francois Bazin Beau Soir by Claude Debus...

Re: Earth for Flute and Piano

Buying the book from Amazon Japan is the only way to get this piece of music. It was out of print prior to being included in the book. I bought the book from Amazon Japan earlier this year, just to get Earth. The book is around $40 US, and the shipping is about another $40. It was expensive but wort...

Re: Miyazawa or Altus?

My Miyazawa has the MZ-10 HJ cut, and I chose it over several others. Mine does has the gold riser and lip plate. I'm not sure what you mean by noise. I just know my tone was better with the MZ-10 than the several other Miyazawa HJ cuts I tried. The MZ-11 wasn't out yet, when I got mine.

Earth by Takatsugu Muramatsu

This song, which evidently was out of print, is now back in print! There is a "catch.". It is included in an "album" of sheet music available from Amazon Japan for around $40 US. The "catch" is that postage to the US will cost you another $40! But if you could get a couple of friends who also wanted...

Re: Miyazawa or Altus?

I play a Miyazawa 202, and it was the "feel" of it that won me over. In my case, it was not the most expensive flute I tried, but it was definitely the most comfortable one to play. I agree with getting someone objective to listen to a blind test of both. I liked the tone of both my top two choices,...

Re: Advice on attending NFA

Yes, I think the gate attendants were worried about a full flight with minimal in cabin storage. Everyone tries to go carry on only these days, it seems. I could have stowed the Altieri case in the cabin fine, as it rode on the flight to Charlotte under the seat in front of me, and we did have prior...

Re: Advice on attending NFA

We went carry on only to Charlotte last August. We didn't bring a music stand, but needed to buy one there and flew home with it, again carry on only, with no problems. My only concern on the trip was that we flew a smaller airplane home than we did going, and they made me gate check my Altieri bag ...

Re: bent or T head joint

Sounds like you are referring to a Drelinger UpRite head joint. They are pricey (5k) new, although flutastic.com has a used one for sale for just under 3K. I am not associated with flutastic.com at all, other than I have bought a flute from her in the past and was pleased with the transaction. Linda
