There are so many different facets to the overall qualities of a headjoint that it is almost impossible to say a certain thing. Nice, congrats on your new flute. It is hard to play and learn alone, better ask someone.. a friend maybe to teach you the basics on how to play.

Congrats on your new alto flute, I know it is hard to position your arms and it will make your arms feel numb if you will play for longer hours. My advice to you is find a position that you think is comfortable to you and always practice to play with that position and get used to it.

I am using this "Play Flute Today Beginner's Pack" I bought it in ebay, so far it is good and it has a dvd that you can watch how it is play.
