Re: Re-introduction

Good Luck Morne! Let us know how you're making out Hi Classitar, So... it's been a while and now... 2020. I last posted in 2017. So much has happened in the interim, including covid which has brought the world to a stop. I never actually got to flute lessons after all :( I keep doubting myself. Lat...

Re: Grade 8 piece

Excuse my ignorance, but what are ABRSM grade 8 and RCM gr.8 exams? I don't recall taking any sort of exams, except when I tried for a scholarship at college (and learned only music majors are given them--although they were very nice and did praise my playing, so it wasn't a total bust). >'Kat Hi t...

Re-introduction

Hey all, Morne here. Some might remember me from a while back. I joined up while I was living in Korea. I am back in Cape Town now (been a year already) and I am thinking I should get back into flute. I now have the chance to get a diploma (I couldn't in Korea) and I can get back into practice. Any ...

Re: What is Your Opinion on Male Flutists?

Let's not get too much closer to what is and is not considered 'manly.' Otherwise this sassy queen will have to use a hammer or mandrel to beat some sense into you whilst wearing glitter and mascara. ;) ^ LOL... love this! Too funny! :) I am a male flute player (flautist here in South Africa, lol) ...

Re: Practice Books

Hi Mark, I myself am getting back into flute after a break. I usually come back to scales with Taffanel and Gaubert Daily Exercises nos 1,2 and 4. The book has loads of exercises to get the fingers moving and they can be adapted to work on anything. The Wye books are also good. I haven't used them m...

Re: Any suggestions welcome

Yes. Generally all flutists play through T&G at some point in their careers. Most of them play it over and over again. T&G however is not a book for someone to start with and many MANY books exist to augment T&G. I would follow your teacher's advise and tackle T&G a bit later down the road. Hi Flut...

Any suggestions welcome

Hi all. Haven't posted in a while. Here's the thing... After a hiatus from flute I am back and getting back into practice. The problem I am trying to solve is... do all flute players really play Taffanel and Gaubert? I have been told that this is the flute bible...but I actually do not enjoy it (exc...

Re: What is Your Gender?

I'm a guy. My current teacher is a guy as well. And my best friend who plays flute is also a guy. My teachers in elementary school and high school were both guys too. I was the only one in high school who took music as a full subject with flute as my instrument. There were other guys who played in b...

popular etudes

Hi all ...

I'm just curious ... which etudes are most popular with intermediate to advanced and professional players ?
I'm currently only playing Kohler but all my flutist friends are playing others. Some haven't even heard of Kohler.
I know Andersen is one of the most played.
Thank you
