Re: Can you buy too advanced a flute for a young girl?
The reach doesn't seem to be a problem for her. Her friend who plays came over and found my daughter's flute much easier to play than her own. She is only a little bit bigger than my daughter, although she's much stronger being a swimmer. I think I got very lucky with an honest ebay seller. $200 for...

Re: Can you buy too advanced a flute for a young girl?
I have those. I already used a soft lint free cloth with some distilled water and alcohol on a q-tip. It looks really nice. We'll get it checked out by a pro, but I can't spot anything wrong with it or many signs it was played. There are faint indentations in the pads from the metal rim of the holes...

Pearl 505 came today
So my hat's off to USPS. They got the flute to me in 2 days regular first class mail. My $212 purchase seems to have worked out. It looks nearly new. There's some dust and such under the bar that the keys attach to, and you can see fingerprints and all, but it's in great shape. On the headjoint, lef...

Yes, the SPAM post, not yours. I'd never seen one before. Didn't realized it would get deleted by the board or I wouldn't have mentioned it.

I've never seen spam on a message board before, but I wouldn't PM!

Re: Can you buy too advanced a flute for a young girl?
I had to search for Brannen Brothers and then images. They look very beautiful. I love that they make heirloom quality flutes.

Re: Can you buy too advanced a flute for a young girl?
Thanks Pied_Piper, When she starts to drive, I'd like to get her a tank. Slow, and safe, LOL. I don't think they get good milage though. I'm curious. When you play the Pearl flute, do you use a more advanced headjoint on it than the one my daughter will use? Also, being more advanced than a beginner...

Re: Can you buy too advanced a flute for a young girl?
i know you found one on ebay but that is rare (and risky :P ). here in australia it would be $600 - $1000 new. E-bay might be risky here too. I'll let you know, but I think I probably got very lucky with someone who decided to price her nearly new 505 for a fast sale. We'll see. New order from a st...

Re: Can you buy too advanced a flute for a young girl?
Hi ianeandflute, Based on everything I've read here, several things stop me from agreeing with you. First, her flute will be going to school every day. I expect it will get dropped, bumped, dinged, etc. If she decides to try marching band, that will be doubly true. For $200, I won't really care if s...

Re: Can you buy too advanced a flute for a young girl?
Might be all done. Somebody on ebay thought they were selling a new Pearl PF 665RBE they'd received as a gift but never really played. It was listed at 400 opening, buy it now of 800, but the flute in the picture was closed hole and had a c-foot. The woman thought it was the 665 because there had be...

Re: Can you buy too advanced a flute for a young girl?
Hi Phineas, I actually do listen. I promise not to buy her a Muramatsu for her first flute. I did buy a Mason andHamlin AA for her first piano, but we liked the sound best. In that case, it made a huge difference in the tone, and I like having a grand piano in the house. People just walk in a play i...

Re: Can you buy too advanced a flute for a young girl?
Knowing I can get a great deal on refurbishing and repair if it's needed, there are several Yamaha 221's on ebay that look to be in very good condition. If I can win one for under $250, that would seem reasonable based on what you have told me. I've read on other sites that many students have played...

Re: Can you buy too advanced a flute for a young girl?
Very educational. It sounds like I should buy her a Pearl 505 or 501, or a Yamaha 221 or 225. I have access through her school to super reasonable repair/refurbishing, so I could easily get her a Jupiter 711 on ebay and have it restored to nearly new for the same price as a nice Yamaha 221, but a lo...

Re: Can you buy too advanced a flute for a young girl?
Uh oh, 18 views and no advice. Maybe I asked an unanswerable. I swear I searched and didn't find an answer. I found that better flutes are better, and a B foot may not be a great thing for a young girl. So how about I ask it this way. If you had an 11 year old musical kid who was going to play a lot...

Can you buy too advanced a flute for a young girl?
Hi, First post here. I've been reading a lot lately because I am going to buy my 11 year old daughter a flute. I need to tell you about her so I can ask my question. She chose band as her elective in school next year, and liked the flute best of the instruments. (Piano isn't an option) Band is a dai...
