Thanks so much, fluttiegurl. I can't play the instrument beforehand, but the seller does offer money back within 2 weeks of purchase. I went ahead and bought the used 3SHB and the seller should be shipping it out tomorrow. I thought about taking it to our local music shop and seeing if they could in...

Advice on used flute

Is $350 a good deal for a Gemeinhardt 3SHB? The seller purchased it new and has had all of the pads and corks replaced a couple of years ago. He/she said it was just used for high school band and does not have any dents or dings, only very fine scratches here and there from normal use. It comes with...

Hey, thanks for the info on the 3B series. Do you know if the 3S series is a much better deal for an extra $250-300? I need to keep it under $1,000 as much as possible, so I've been looking at the $500-550 price range but could bump up to the 3S series in the $800-850 range. I don't play in a band, ...

Thanks, fluttiegurl! I actually think I've decided on a Gemeinhardt 3BO. I'm getting it from FluteWorld, so I'll be able to test it out for their 10 day trial period. If that's not the one for me, I might go down and try out the Azumis and other ones they have at our local music store.

Azumi flutes?

I believe these are fairly new but our local music store has a couple and they look like good flutes. Does anyone have experience with these? Would you recommend them? (I played for 8 years in school and 10 years later I'm getting back into playing. So, I don't NEED anything spectacular, but would l...

Thanks y'all. :) I did some Google-ing after I posted and I didn't find anything good about them. I gathered they were of pretty low quality from what I found. Thanks!!

Simba?

Ok, so there's an ad for a used Simba flute - $65 - in our town and I was thinking of getting it and using it until I could get my new one. I've never heard of this brand, though. I emailed the person and asked for more details and they *think* it's open hole, all silver. She said she'd meet me some...

Cool, thanks! I think I've made up my mind. I'm going to get me an Azumi. :) Not sure if it'll be the 2000 or 3000...guess it depends on how much I can save up till I get it. :)

Thanks for all of your help/advice!

Once again, very helpful. :) Thanks! Yep, I thought it felt pretty good but the sales guy said it was a fairly new brand so I thought I'd check up on them. I'll be buying in about a month...still deciding which one to get. :) I've decided to up my budget a little bit and get one that I really want, ...

Azumi flutes

I went to a music shop today in a bigger city and they had an Azumi flute out on display. I'd never heard of them before - does anyone have one? Anyone know how they compare with others? Also, this might be a dumb question but they have Altus Z-cut headjoints...any experience with one of those? Like...

I could have written your post myself, JustBreathe. :) I played in Jr. and High School and now, 8 years later, really miss it. I just borrowed a flute from my sitter tonight and have been looking over fingering charts online and trying to get myelf re-familiarized with the scales for now. I was goin...

Awesome, you've all given me lots to think about. I have good news, too. My son's sitter actually played flute and isn't going to be playing this year so she dropped her flute off tonight so I can borrow it for a while. I'm going to go get some fingering charts and easy music and try to refresh myse...

Interesting because I was just looking at that one. In fact, I just posted to my other thread about Pearls.

Thanks, I'll keep this one in mind.

Thanks again! :) I've seen Pearl mentioned quite a bit in my searching lately. Is this a reliable brand for intermediate flutes? And as a pp mentioned the plated vs solid silver subject might be touchy. Can you point me to a site that explains the differences (if any) so as not to stir up debates he...
