I'm 14, and in ninth grade. This will be my fifth year (we start at my school in 4th grade, but my mom, who also played the flute, taught me some basics the summer before). In fourth grade I broke a bone in my hand and had a cast on my ring finger and pinkey, but I still managed to play the flute fo...

holy crap! thats nuts! our band director doesn't do our warmups, the field conductors do it. we usually all feel pretty lazy and do like 25 jumping jacks, 15 pushups, a few stretches, and then something to help us with our balance. Jeeze I can't believe you do all that. If we had to do all that our ...

Ahh ok thank you :D . It wasn't that confusing. I'll make sure I try stretching. I'm not afraid to march backwards.. I used to be but over time I just learned to trust that everyone would get out of my way or tell me to stop if I'm moving backwards and about to hit them. Recently though some stupid ...

When I march backwards (on the balls of my feet of course), I always have trouble staying balanced and sometimes I'm almost falling over. Anyone else have this problem? Any idea on how to help me? I'm not sure if its just how I step or if I just have balance problems. I'm also duckfooted pretty badl...

He gives us a coordinate sheet that says like 3 steps outside home hash and 2.75 outside left 25 or whatever, so thats not a problem. Writing down what it looks like is a good idea. We use "drill chips" to mark our spots when we first learn them. We all get 6 little plastic chips that we write our n...

If only you could meet him... Mr Hamil can be a nice... well... thats stretching it too much. He can be a decent guy sometimes, but others he doesn't realize what all we have to do. He expects me and like 4 other people to cross through another line at exactly count four, and then in the other 8 cou...

Well we were actually considering starting a big rebellion... being like "Hamill if you make us do this me and these 49 other people are quitting.. you can't do the show with half the people. You need us Mr Hamill. Let us just march it out by ourselves instead" haha that would be funny... I don't th...

Its pretty nice. We march a big path through KennyWood with like 6 other bands from all around the area. Its pretty cool. When I was little I always wanted to play the flute like my mommy, and I ended up doing it. Oh and Mr Hamill also decided that we have to memorize the freaking coordinates and th...

We have about one hundred people in marching band, 13 of them are flutes, and 1 is a piccolo (next year we'll probably have at LEAST 2 if not 3) and the band director kept yelling at us today because he could hear the 7 trumpets better than he could hear us. They're trumpets! They're just loud! We'r...

1) What is your current association with the flute? (prof, hobby, band student, teacher, etc) In Concert and Marching Band 2) How many years have you played? Uhh... going on 5 years 3) How often and how long do you practice? I tend to procrastinate so usually an hour a day or so during band ca...
