Re: Been playing for a week!
I believe the first advice you described is more correct. Pushing air with your diaphragm, a lot of the time, results in a awfully airy sounding note. Not good. What I've been told is that you should speed up your airstream and change the direction it's going. Also, when you tongue, aim for the tip ...

Danse de la Chevre
Hey all! Haven't posted in forever, had to go back to previous posts to find my username. T_T Anywho, I'm playing Danse de la Chevre by Arthur Honegger for a solo festival in June. If you listen here and look at...

Should I switch flute teachers?
My current private flute teacher spends, on average in a half-hour lesson, 20 minutes doing some obscure, crazy sight reading, 5 minutes dumping music on me for playing at old folks homes and churches, and 5 minutes running half of one of the smaller, easier movements of my All-County Solo. She's gi...

French Model Flute Tricks
SO! Here goes. Band this year is incredibly boring. Boring conductor, easy music. I need something to do/practice during the half of practice where the conductor is out of the room, doing some undisclosed activity. Things like sliding from one pitch to another like violins and trombones, strange not...

Re: Silver----"on the Rocks"
Just curious. If you just want the lip plate engraved, would you have to send in the entire flute or just the head joint?

Seven Sonatas by Handel
For All-County, I'm playing the fifth sonata by G. F. Handel. If I could get some tips on articulation, phrasing, and extra stuff (trills, vibrato) that would be great. Not tips on how to do the techniques, but rather how to apply them to the piece. Thankees!

I swear by Burt's Bees Super Shine lip gloss. It does an amazing job moisturizing, is super shiny, and comes in a bunch of colors.

Re: Intermediate Flute
I'm not sure, as I've never owned an Emerson flute. Emerson is a division of Selmer, and they tend to have good quality control in general. I did some research, and most websites said they were on the heavy side, and the headjoints can be badly cut.

Re: emerson??
Judging from the pictures, the flute is silver-plated nickel, offset G, plateau model. Who are you purchasing from? If it's the website with the pictures, I wouldn't take the chance. http://www.trademe.co.nz does not seem like a reputable dealer. The information you're given isn't exactly relevant t...

Re: Intermediate Flute
I recently upgraded to a Yamaha 481H (I got it for $1200 USD) and absolutely love it. Specs are in my signature. It has an amazing lower range, but takes some minor embouchure changes to get into the higher range. The R1, 2, and 3 keys (excuse my flute slander, I have no idea what those keys are) ar...

Re: New Gemeinhardt or used Selmer
While [insert online third party relatiler here] is good for flute music, flute cleaning supplies, flute accessories, and the like, I wouldn't buy a flute online. In my opinion, there's too much margin for damage to the flute, and returning is sometimes a hassle. Selmer flutes DO have a nice sound. ...

Lost Tone Hole Plugs
I am in total and utter freak-out mode. My evil 10 year old brother thought it would be hilarious to take my flute out of its case. If that isn't bad enough, he removed all the tone hole plugs, and next week I'm going to a highly competitive band camp. How am I supposed to adjust to a new flute with...

Re: 3 Flutes to Choose From. Please Advise.
1. Used Yamaha 225SII SIlver-plated nickel is definitely the way to go with a beginner flute. Your daughter is going to end up dropping it a few times, and nickel holds up much better against dents than silver. The offset-G key feels more natural when learning hand position. Please note Yamaha flute...

New Yamaha flute - tight joints. Is this normal?
I nearly had a heart attack minutes ago when I couldn't get the foot joint of my brand-new, not even a week old Yamaha 481H. I've heard some people say new flutes tend to have tight joints. Is this true? If not, how can I self-remedy it before going to a repair shop and having it fixed?
