Re: Flute Studio
Hello Arlee, I teach woodwinds myself, and flute music has always been my main passion. I usually receive referrals from my repair customers (I've been repairing instr  for more than 25 years as well) and from band directors. Just like finding gigs, it is a good thing to "sit in" with various...

Re: Flute-Clarinet duets
I know a couple of clarinetists (is that what you call them?) who want to get together and play duets. I'm having some trouble finding music for us to play. Flute-oboe duets seem to be a lot more common. Can standard Bb clarinets play oboe music? I'm not sure about how other instruments transpose o...

Re: No progress on higher register - is it the flute or is i
Thanks for the suggestions for the higher register. I have recently tried a different flute music and found that the higher notes are easier to play. I was playing a Gemeinhardt 2SH. I am now trying a Yamaha YFL221 and find that it is also lighter. I am considering buying it (just renting it now) a...

Re: Haynes "Classic" Q3
Hi, I do not own this flute but I have played it several times! I just love it!!!!!! I think they did such a nice job. My local music store is selling one with a gold risor and a c trill key for 4800. I think that is a great price! I can honestly tell you that the more I play that flute the more I ...

Re: Clarinet people? Quick question...
Sorry to post a clarinet question here, but I know some of you are multi-instrument musicians, and I didn't want to have to find and join a clarinet forum for one question. I am looking to get my mom a basic clarinet lessons to play with. She played in high school and wants to get back into playing...

Re: Mateki flute
The Mateki's are fine flutes. I have a couple repair customers that own them and love them. Construction is good and playability preference belongs specifically to the person playing it. It does not necessarily transfer to any other player. This brings me to a pet peeve of mine. Please separate a g...

Re: Flute vs clarinet lets compare
Well I've been playing the clarinet lessons for 10 months, not a long time, and the flute for about 2 months now. One thing I have found is that the flute is a lot less problematic. Or is this just my imagination. It seems like everytime I play either of my two Yamaha 450 clarinets I have some sort...

Re:
The C# trill is an extremely useful addition, and generally heavy walls are associated with a darker sound. However, I've played plenty of bright heavy wall flute music and plenty of dark standard wall instruments, so I don't believe this really holds up. The main difference that I do believe exist...

Re: Mateki flute
Hi, I know this post came up some time ago. However, I tried a Mateki 5 at my flute music lesson on Monday and thought I would share my thoughts. The Mateki was solid silver with drawn tone holes. This was the only Mateki flute I have ever played. Having said that, I must confess that I hated it! T...

Re: 1st time going to band camp - suggestions?
Hello everyone! Sunday I am leaving for a 2-week band camp and I was hoping that some of you could share your experiences/advice so that I can get the most out of it. I've heard lots of rave reviews about this camp, my flute lessons teacher is teaching one of the master classes there, and she think...

Re: Unsure if I'm where I'm supposed to be (going to college
In the fall I will be a Music Ed major. Even though I'm the best in my school, I know that there are so many other flute players at different schools who are better than me. I met some over the summer and heard many during my audition process. I feel like I have so many flaws with my flute playing,...
