Re: I need a new flute so which one?

Powell Sonare flutes use a Powell headjoint and a cheaper made body. They really do not play like true Powells much at all. With this, I would say that the Yamaha 600 series would be a better purchase than a Powell Sonare due to body construction, however I'm not a huge fan of either. You say you to...

Re: College Auditions

I don't actually have the Baxtresser book (finally ordered it and waiting to get it!) but I worked on a lot of excerpts in my lessons this last year. These are quite popular and I'm sure at least some of them are in the book. A few that my teacher had me work up were: Beethoven Leonore Overture Brah...

Re: Powell 9k Aurumite or silver conservatory flute

I played on a few of both of these flutes yesterday, and personally liked the Aurumite flutes better than silver, however, it is definitely a matter of preference. Test play both equally and see what you like best! I don't think either is really 'better' than the other.

Re: Flute for college

Are you planning to major in music in college? If so, I wouldn't personally go with any of these flutes. Out of the three you've listed, the Sonare is easily the best because of its Powell handcut headjoint. The Gemeinhardt and Armstrong do not come close to comparing, and neither of these are reall...

If only I had the funds for a Brannen... :P
Unfortunately, I'm a broke high school student.

Re: Pearl 765CODA vs Yamaha 674HCT vs Di Zhao 700

Reaching the gizmo key on the Yamaha wasn't much of a problem for me when I was testing it. On my Pearl, it's nearly impossible for me. At the last honor band I went to, the girl that was sitting first chair (I was made second!) made sure I was using the gizmo to stabilize the high C in one of the p...

Re: Pearl 765CODA vs Yamaha 674HCT vs Di Zhao 700

The flute has been fully serviced, and taken into the shop multiple times. Every time I have taken it in, my repair tech (who is VERY reliable, I should add) finds nothing wrong with it. It's a fine flute, it really just isn't working for me. It just doesn't feel right under my hands - the keys feel...

Pearl 765CODA vs Yamaha 674HCT vs Di Zhao 700

So, I currently play on a Pearl 765CODA. This flute really isn't working for me, and I want to upgrade. (For sale, if anyone is interested ;D) My two choices for step-ups are the Yamaha 674 and the Di Zhao 700. Which of these three flutes would be considered the 'best' option. I really like the Yama...
