Hi Briolette
Hi Briolette; I am sorry to hear about your father. I have heard your type of story many times over the years. I worked in oncology nursing for several years. Now, I am working on my Masters, Physician Assistant in Oncology. Someday science may find a true cure for cancers of all types. Until then, ...

Gold Plating
If the plating was done by Yamaha, it should hold-up very well. My Baker Model is plated, and has 6 years without any signs of wear. My skin reacts to silver due to a medication I take. This was the reason I purchased a plated instrument.

Hey Briolette;
I hope all is going well. Did you get your flute back? I would like to know how things worked-out. Take care!

This information is from the program notes of the Park Avenue Chamber Orchestra. "The one regret Mozart might have had about composing the Concerto for Flute and Harp was that he was never paid for it. He composed the Concerto for Duc Adrien-Louis de Guines (1735-1806), who was a fine flautist, and ...

Orpheus Flutes
A musician friend of mine just got back from China. She was teaching in Beijing for three months. Katt had the chance to go to one of the factories that makes wood flutes for the American market. She said there were three in Beijing. Based on her information, the lengthy production time, is due to l...

Headjoint makers
Howell Roberts, Robert Bigio, and Flute Makers Guild can make great headjoints for your flute. I've played heads by each, and they all do excellent work. Have fun!!!

Wunderlich flute
I am very familiar with this maker. I played on a Wunderlich for nine years. Basically, these were "handmade" instruments. Most parts were made in the Czech Republic, but "fine tuned," assembled, and sold out of Berlin. Wunderlich was associated to Oscar Adler in the early 20th century. The scale ca...

Stopper
I purchased a Bigio stopper and crown for my new wood flute. It does make a difference... at least in my opinion. I tried the "Performance Plug" stopper in my Sheridan. It was effective, but not as effective as the Bigio. Sometimes a stopper and crown change may enchance a particular flute. I tried ...

Piccolo Crisis
If people think buying a flute is complicated, try getting a picc!!! I've never found a picc I think is "all that, and more." I have a Yamaha YPC-62 with three heads. Yes, three headjoints. I have the orginal Yamaha, a Zalo -that was cut when Peleritte had his hands on every headjoint before sale, a...

Ebony Headjoint
I do not recomment ebony headjoints. They are VERY prone to cracking. For this reason, Powell, Sankyo, Yamaha, Hammig, Bigio, Eppler and other wood flute makers do not make modern scale instruments out of ebony. Grenadilla, rosewood, violetwood, and cocuswood are less likely to crack and are usually...

Just a Note for all
Hello Everyone; This has been an interesting thread to read. I think I have an answer to several questions presented. Over the "holidaze" I had dinner with an old attorney friend, who is now a judge. Here are her replies to some of the questions about the technician's responsabilities in the labor a...

Best Flutists
I have to say "Ditto" to the previous list of flute players. I have admired all of them over the years. I think one should add Ian Anderson and Hubert Laws to the list. While I am a classical player, the jazz flutisits are such great musicians that they deserve respect the same as Galway.

Hey Briolette!
I would take it easy on the "all night" playing. After performing on wood instruments for 30 years, it has been my experience to take it slow with new instruments. Keep tring to get Craig. Based on your photos and description of the problems, you do have good reasons to have problems addressed. But,...
