Re: Survey: True or False

I do say oboe 8) and find oboe does not cause a problem for flute embouchure and would expect sax to be an even easier transition. Remembering not to take in too much air for the oboe after playing flute is An Issue, well, for me anyway. Cheers.

Re: Sankyo cf201-muramatsu EX, which one?

Welcome, Flutego12! I am pleased you have joined us. Ta for your kind words. I have bonded well with my Mura EX and still don't understand the various comments about wildness. I did not try to GX due, primarily, to financial concerns. Having an all solid silver flute might make a difference in sound...

Re: need to find a good b foot flute or b foot joint! help!!

Have you checked in with the person who does repair/maintenance on your current flute for leads? After that, pawn or consignment shops. Keep in mind, most dealers that sell new horns sell used as well and might have trade-ins or flutes on consignment. You do not want to buy on-line. You do not have ...

Re: need to find a good b foot flute or b foot joint! help!!

Thanks for the additional information, gonewasnothing. Your price range is going to be a problem for a new flute. However, if you can scrape together a bit more, I would highly recommend a Pearl 525rb. Another alternative is to look for used and test thoroughly before committing. I've found absolute...

Re: Advice on Sleepy Finger

No worries, Cmybliss, use the least possible amount of glue, apply it to the pearl not the key, be sure to not get any on pads, and you will be fine. My teacher glued a tiny piece of sandpaper to my oboe and, once my finger placement improved, took it off without incident. If you are apprehensive, m...

Re: need to find a good b foot flute or b foot joint! help!!

Call me paranoid, but I have concerns with your ebay find. The price is too low for what the seller is claiming it is, so quality may be dicey. On a more basic level, what is behind your need for a B foot?

Ta for the links. /hijacking

Back to the thread, there is a joke for today (which is cool-ish and humid, thus reeds were all being quite uncooperative) in my sig.

Re: New here, help with tone!

Whatever you have been working on would be a good sample. Do you have a particular warm up routine, such as progressive scales? If so, that would also be useful.

Re: New here, help with tone!

Hi Fluteplayer03, It's rather difficult to assess without seeing you play. Do you still have a teacher to help? How long have you been playing? Things to look at are, yes, your embouchure and positioning at the lip plate and how you breathe/blow and how you tongue (too slow makes muddiness) and body...

Ah, I didn't see this before I responded to your question about your finger! I am impressed. You are using new facial muscles and it takes a while for them to get used to being used. Brava!

Re: Advice on Sleepy Finger

I've not had a similar experience but wonder whether your flute has an off set or inline G key. People with smallish hands sometimes position their hands uncomfortably on inline keys or the flute is not a good fit (there are differences amongst flutes, some are comfy others not so much). Just a WAG ...

Re: Silver head joint or new open hole flute?

Shopping for a new instrument is really fun yet you already have a good flute. My recommendation is to find a fabulous head. Going from a silver lip plate to a solid silver (or Wood!) head will make a world of difference in your tone. Open hole versus closed doesn't really make a difference once the...

Re: Sankyo cf201-muramatsu EX, which one?

Good point, Missy. It is a matter of getting the right combination of woman and machine. If we were all made the same and played the same, the market would be much less diverse. Zevang, Ta for sharing your videos. You are fabulous! (Apparently I have a strong bias as I thought your Mura sounded bett...

Follow up for Zevang, please?

It's probably no surprise that I have a Muramatsu now, in addition to my Pearl. We bonded and I sound fabulous. I do not understand what I keep seeing about wildness of the Muramatsu head, it has been quite cooperative, if not downright enthusiastic. "E3, you say? C4? Fine, let's go." and we absolut...
