Speaking as someone who's just started a month or so ago, I can only say how what I've done has worked for me. James, I just wanted to thank you. The back-of-the-throat thing has taken me from unable to consistently voice low e to having no troubles consistently voicing low Bb in about three minutes.

Something I've found made a big difference was the volume I have been playing at. Being in a shared house, I've been quite self-conscious of playing, which means trying to be quiet... which means my notes are a lot less supported and consistent. I've found it's worth making sure I'm playing at full ...

I can throw in an extra vote for the snowball; if you do get one you'll want to use it on the second setting (-10dB of attenuation) to avoid clipping.
