I do have a question, though. Is there a certain way scales are expected to be played in an audition? I'm used to honor bands giving a sheet with given articulations, tempo, etc. (Up to the octave or the 9th, etc) but auditions where they just say "play these scales" leave me with a raised eyebrow....

whoops, i meant that my audition is march 25th. i've talked with other music majors about their auditions and they all have said that it goes by really fast because it is literally 10 minutes. one flutist said her audition was "hard" but others have said that it wasn't bad. i'm hoping for the best! ...

hmm..
i think my biggest struggle right now is my breath control/range. i just can't seem to play more than a few measures without having to stop for air! i'm hoping that long tone exercises and relying more on my embouchure to support me in the high/low registers will help some. i'm also seeking out that...

Lyric Flutes
I recently obtained a Miyazawa catalog and they also sent me a brochure for their lyric flutes. I'm not sure what the differences are between the two brands, other than the lyric flutes have a dramatic decrease in pricing compared to Miyazawa's flutes. Has anyone tried/owned a lyric flute? As a poor...

hmm, my reply might be a little late. but maybe some of my tips will help you with practicing: i like to run through a song once or twice (at a comfortable pace, even if it's a slower tempo than what the song calls for) and then go back and mark all the bars i had problems on. keeping a penci...
