I teach brass instruments as well... Take care of your lips. Play tuba AFTER you play flute. The buzzing swells your lips and you'll have a much harder time playing... Keep up the Marcel Moyse De la Sonorite as much as you can on flute & do lots of lips slurs on tuba to learn how to buzz correctly.....

flutepicc06 is right - listen to as many recordings as you can. That's great that you're doing the dynamics and vibrato. Are you able to control your speed and depth and intensity of vibrato? These are all tools of expressing oneself. Are you putting weight on harmonically important notes in the pie...

I've noticed students having the indentation on the Lhand first finger joint base, where you're talking about when they're pressing the flute too hard up against their chin, or because they're not allowing the Lhand first finger to get far enough up underneath the flute - I tell my students to think...

Good comment about the "C" shape in your RH, fluteguy18 - never heard that one before...make sure that you don't play with tension - I developed a ganglion cyst in my right wrist in HS because of too much tension in my right hand/arm. All of the muscles are connected. Do some studying of Alexander T...

My guess is this is the Sicilienne by Gabriel Faure...You should play it in a fast six, and feel it in two. Eighth note = 144 ish... Feel the swing in two...have fun...and lean into the phrases...

Sonare's

I have two students who play on Sonare's and two who play on Yamaha 500 series. Both are comparable in mechanism. The advantage though goes to the Sonare - they're a little more expensive but the headjoints are all handmade Powell - which is quite good. Try it first, but my recommendation over these...

A lot of flutists roll their lip plate in or out while they attempt the upper register... make sure you keep your head level, just as it was when the other high notes below super C came out. Watch yourself in the mirror. And as flutepicc06 said, make sure you have the right fingering... should be......

looks great!!!

The site looks great - I like how you're keeping your sponsors more professional oriented. I'm a music teacher and I'd like to use this site for educational purposes - never ran across it before. I'd like to see more composers in the encyclopedia - keep up the good work and get some more pages up - ...

the only help I can think of is to lift your right hand pinky on the high E and then put it down on the B. This helps to eliminate some of the harmonic and intonation trouble with the high E. I know this is an old post, but it might help someone...have a great year!

we need to know the piece before we can give specific advice - as for auditions...get lots of rest, drink lots of water, and be confident and positive (that's easy if you're prepared, so make sure you're(she's) prepared...) best of luck!
