According to the chart I'm a level 7. I can do some of the things listed for level 8, but not all of them and not well enough to be considered that advanced.

Well, I'm no expert, but as far as I know, in order to open your throat, you must lift your soft palliate. That's the part at the back of your throat by your uvula (that's the scientific name for that punching bag thingy that dangles at the back of your throat in case you didn't know). I think you c...

Everyone has given you very good technical advice, but I think part of musicality is your own personal reaction to the music. Listen to the pieces that you're playing and just feel the music. Perhaps listen to a recording and just think about how you feel the music should sound, the tone of the piec...

Piccolo requires a smaller aperture so you can move the air faster to get the higher notes. It's like how to get into the upper register on flute, you need a smaller aperture and faster air. Since picc is an octave higher than flute, you always need this smaller aperture and faster air to get the hi...

When I'm trying to play soft picc, I make my appature smaller and sustain but don't use super fast super hard air so that it doesn't blast. You need to sustain with your diaphragm, but slow the air down some. Just make sure you don't weaken it too much so it affects tone and intonation. It takes som...

The nice one I play for concert season is an open-hole Gemeinhardt, solid silver head joint, and I believe it's a 4SP, the other one I use for marching band (if I'm...

I'm 16 years old and a junior in high school. This is my sixth year playing flute and my second playing piccolo. I also play piano which I have been playing for nine years. As far as my level, I guess I'm pretty good. I'm in my school's wind ensemble. We have two bands: a symphonic band and a wind e...

Hi, I'm new too. I thought I would say hello as well, and I thought it was pretty pointless for me to start my own topic about me saying hi. Haha, I'm not that important. So yeah, this seems like a really cool site! You guys rock!
