Honestly, I only moved to Oklahoma 3 weeks ago. I moved from Virginia, where I wrapped up lessons with my current teacher. I was always able to perform well with him because he was my teacher for 3 years, and I was totally comfortable with him. In my lessons with Patricia George last summer, I was c...

I have garnered a lot of information from the message boards I have been to since I started looking. Chatting about the flute is the only thing I do primarily on the Internet--aside from e-mail, of course. My high school was a small, country school in Virginia. I was virtually the only flute player ...

Gross tones

I suggest going through the piece you are working on, and taking each note one at a time. Here are some things to remember about tone--keep the head up, shoulders down, jaw down, tongue down (that will definitely hinder your air!), and just try to get that particular note to sing at any dynamic leve...

I recommend the flute.com message board if you don't neccessarily feel comfortable at the Galway chat. I have been there since 2000, so I am right at home there, but I am also used to the level of discussion that takes place there. I haven't noticed rudeness on the chat. It seems that more takes pla...

I enjoy the Galway chat because it is advanced (like you say) as well as moderated. Flute.com also has a message board--I have gotten into odd confrontations there. Even over the question of homosexuality as it relates to flute players. Maybe it is a relevant question, but I don't see it. Anyhow, I ...

Hi members, Just discovered this site today. I''m already a member of two other flute-related forums, and I''m excited to find another one I can be a part of. The Internet is a great thing for bringing flutists together! I''ll just share a bit about myself--I will have been playing for 7 years comin...

3rd octive & extended range

Going to the top D is about as far as anyone will go; unless of course you want to get into some zany extended technique, 20th, 21st century type stuff. Practicing those high notes can be damaging to the embouchure. Personally, I wouldn't do the scales 3 octaves. The only scales I practice 3 octaves...
