How to practice when you can't

I'm leaving for the airport in 3 hours and am very nervous, heh. I just wanted to say thank you, again, for all your kind and encouraging words. They mean a lot. My mom asked the admissions guy if I could bring my own music, and he said, "We would like that very much." So that looks like a good sign...

Just wanted to say Hi

Welcome back [] I missed you and your posts [:)] I think it's a great idea to use your daughter's Gemeinhardt... then you can work on an open hole flute which could help your form, and I would think it's made of better materials than the student flute you were using, so you might get bette...

Sankyo Flutes

I noticed this board moving slowly as well-- I wish it wasn't the case. I don't know anything about Sankyo flutes-- I don't think any local music stores sell them here, and I don't know anyone who has one. BUT... I went the website (www.sankyoflute.com) and they look like very nice flutes. Of course...

Practicing

I practice anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 or 4 hours a day. It just depends on how busy I am and how I'm feeling. During this time I usually work out of my lesson book (I use Rubank because my teacher does [;)] I'm currently just starting Advanced Vol. 2) first, to work on my scales and warm myself u...

Counting in Eighths

I was going through really old posts on this page during a spout of boredom this afternoon and I came across someone asking about how to count in 8ths... when the time signature is 3/8, 6/8, 9/8, 12/8, etc. People responded to this person with something like, "the 8th note gets one beat, so the quar...

When did you start playing the piccolo?

I''m just curious... how long
had you played the flute before you started playing the piccolo? Do you like one
over the other?

How to practice when you can't

Thank you all for all your wonderful responses!! It really means a lot [] No, I will not have computer access while there (at least for recreation). How to practice when you can't

I''m going to be leaving for treatment for a medical condition on Tuesday, and though I WILL be able to play my flute some, I won''t be able to nearly as much as I''d like. I will be gone for about 6 months, so that''s a long time to only be practicing every so often, especially when I''d like to ma...

Music stands

I have a metal fold up stand for use at home, and the few
times that stands aren't provided when I'm performing. I find it stable
enough.. I haven't had any problems with it. It's also easy to adjust to
sitting and standing heights depending on the use.
