Marching
Hey there, I agree with everyone else, you should have two flutes, the weather I've played in made my marching flute rather icky until it was cleaned, but I think the closed holed vs. open holed for marching goes either way, but it would probably be easier with a close holed flue in bad weather. -Abby

jazz music for the flute
Thanks, but I'm not sure whether I've got
$40 for it because, as a college student I'll need my $ and I don't have a job
right now[:((] so that makes life harder, heh. But I'll look into that flute
and piano piece and maybe I can con some piano player to pay for half, lol!

good flute jazz combos or just jazz for the flute. I''ve yet to find some
music and my band director didn''t have any music for the flute, he''s not a
fan of the flutes though, arg! so if you could help me, I''d be very happy!!!

Can anybody help me with breathing
Try playing the piece slower at first, when practicing alone, and when doing this, find places where a breath is convinient. Also, work on your breathing, breath in deep and fast. Before playing that part of the piece, take a HUGE breath, then find time to take smaller breaths in between notes. You'...

rubbing alcohol would be a preferred liquid for such a cleansing. mouthwash would make your flute smell funny and it may leave something or hurt the metal if used frequently. but don't use rubbing alcohol all the time. Make sure there's no lip gloss or lotion or anything on the lip plate before play...

Leaving High School Band and Still Getting Music...
Wow, I never thought I''d be so attached to band when graduating...my last day of high school is May 29th and I''m so scared...I''m not able to major in music because my school''s music school is, as my band director put it, "practically non-existant." I''m really sad that I won''t be able to play i...

Make sure that you support your tone from your diaphragm. To make sure you're breathing correctly, feel your stomach when you breath, if it expands, you're breathing correctly, if it doesn't then you want to try it. Lie flat on the floor and place a book on your stomach and each time it rises and fa...

Hey there, Another thing to do is make sure that your lips are placed correctly on the lip plate. If the hole is too high on your lip, it won't work, but if it's too low, the same thing will happen, try to make sure the hole is right on the line where your lip meets your non-lip-colored skin (sorry ...

OMG, my band played that song a while ago, I loved it!!! I wish I could get a hold of the music to it. Good luck with the solos, I know how you feel, just keep practicing and as you get better, maybe they'll realize that they need to grow up and get a life! You deserve the solos you got because you'...

Other ways to make practicing more exciting is to work on your tuning, if your fingers or mouth is tired, try to make it a "game" to see how long you can keep the tuner still at a perfect pitch. I'm pretty bad at it, but it helps with tuning, so you can constantly hear the note, and it helps you not...

Hi everyone! ^_^
Welcome to our message board! You sound very enthusiastic and I hope that your drive for playing the flute grows with your experience! Thank you for the complement on female flutists! That's very sweet of you to say, but please don't let that influence you to play and instrument. I definatly didn't ...

Open vs Closed hole flutes
I do agree with the techniques thing you menchioned, but I've yet to need it and I don't know how high the level of music acually calls for a flute to use those. I think that you're safe with either flute, if price is an issue, closed holed flutes tend to cost less, or so I've observed, but I'm sure...
