oddly enough, the oboe players are the nicest people at my university.... Except Lindsey... she's a meanie. XP Just kidding. The double reeds in general have great attitudes at Eastern. I don't know what it is about them, but they are definately the studio with the least drama in the whole departme...

That is a really awesome website. I know that I've been having trouble with memorizing the circle of fifths in my theory classes - I expect this website will be a great help! :D
(Yeah, I'll definately tell my friends about it.)

They look awesome, Kat! I'm glad you posted pics - I hope everyone will eventually. It's so awesome to look at people's instruments.

Thanks for the tips guys - and to flutepicc - I'm starting lessons with the flute professor here at Eastern this summer - right now I'm just memorizing fingerings, scales, and some short, pretty etudes for breath control and support. I can't wait to really get started!

I love "Rowena's Theme"! As fluteguy said above... if it was in print, I'd have a copy of it. LOL!

It sucks that his arrangement was lost.

If anyone finds it anywhere, please post on here and say something about it - that is definately something I want to add to my sheet music collection.

Re: Why you need a fingering chart.

Reasons for a fingering chart: 5: You could always need the chart to determine different notes or fingering positions for fluttering. 4: You could always use the chart again, to determine the best way to burn it as well. 3: When put with a strange new peice in a strange key, such as the key of Gfla...

Learn them slowly. You don't need to (and for best results, shouldn't be) trying to play them at full tilt straight off. It will take a little while to get them under your fingers just as it probably took some time to get used to majors. Amen to that advice. When learning basics, always take them s...

The best advice I can give you is to keep yourself busy... I know, it's tough to do, but practice after the audition just as hard as you did before it. Run your warmups all the way through and play your pieces. By the end of it you'll either be too busy or too exausted to worry. The best thing about...

My issue (as a doubling artist) has always been breath control. I just haven't practiced enough the switch from voice to flute and back to voice.

But I'm satisfied with only playing two. (And, I don't have the patience, I think, to learn any more)

Those are Lopatin's Square Ones. I played them last summer, and they were good, and responsive, but I'm unsure whether they were any better than his round-tone-hole flutes! All were good flutes. He's also made a Square One alto. Here's the link: http://www.lopatinflutes.com/square.html I just wanna...
