Airy Sound... Lost Sound
Thanks for the replies. My flute teacher says my face muscles are indeed not accustomed to the new use. He suggested I stop and rest when this happens, then practice again later. (Plus, when I take a break, I can clean my flute out.) It sure is nice for a newbie like me to have a place to ask questi...

Stretches and Excercises
Greetings, When I have been practicing awhile, my left shoulder tightens up and hurts, and I realize that I''m tense all over. I''ve been officially taking lessons for two weeks. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this when they began or knows of a few stretches or something I could stop and...

Whistler a piano question for you
Hi, I don't have any experience with
"teach yourself" piano books, but most music stores have several different
kinds. All my piano students use Alfred books; I would definitely recommend that
name. I hope your daughter enjoys learning to play!

This is really bothering me. After about 15
minutes of playing, my notes start to sound really airy. After about 25 minutes,
I can barely make a sound. What's the deal? [:((]

Irish
I would think that the flutes being brought out alot would be typical of Irish music played by a band. This is an "educated guess" because the pennywhistle, an Irish instrument, is often featured in traditional Irish music and mistaken for the flute. So I'd think- unless your band has pennywhistles-...

Yes, "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" and
"Rigaletto" are good, too! I didn't think of those. Shirley Temple movies have
some neat song/dance scenes, too. Whistler

Musicals and Music Movies
(This isn''t directly related to the flute, but since this forum is "For Anything and Everything to do with Flute Playing and Music"...) Lately my family and I have been enjoying- over and over- watching the musical "The Music Man" on DVD. I also love the classics, "The Sound of Music" and "My Fair ...

What Kind of Flute?
Howdy, I received my flute for Christmas, and I was
wondering how I could find out what kind of flute it is (for instance, Yamaha
361, Gemeinhardt 2SP). The stamp on the flute says "Bestler," but that''s all
I know. Thanks, Whistler C.

I got my current avatar (which by the way is part of
Castle Campbell) by uploading my image to another source and using the URL,
which is fine. But I still get the error message when trying to upload one here,
even after selecting one by using the "Browse" button. Oh well. [::)]

Introductions
Howdy, I received my first flute for Christmas... which means I've been playing piano for 9 years, pennywhistle for 6 months, and flute for about 11 days. [] I also teach piano lessons and lead my church's children's choir. On vacation in St. Augustine, I picked up a pennywhistle from the ...

Octave Change / Learning at Home
Greetings, Another question or two... when playing the C Major Scale, C and D play one octave above Middle C- matching the chart I am using. But beginning with E and for the rest of the scale, the notes are an octave lower. Am I doing something wrong or do I just need to blow that much harder? Also,...
