CD Sheet music
I believe they have at least 2 different ones and maybe a third or the third is about to be released. My girlfreind has it, I loaded it onto her computer for her but didn't look at it very much. It has a program that loads the music that you have to install. I looked at it breifly and it had plenty ...

Hindering Progress?
Anytime we take off from practice we pay the price, its the burden we carry, would be nice to just come back exactly where we were and just continue our improvement from there. Maybe we could invent a pill? I am not one that believes you need a teacher to improve. It makes it easier. But sometimes w...

Let's not feed FluteDiddy's obsession with spit anymore Other than an attempt at starting an argumen why would you make crap like that? Call it what you like if the words spit and saliva offend you call it condensation. Its still spit and full of whatever you have eaten lately unless you thoroughly ...

In case I forgot to include Weissman, this NYC retailer of flutes and pics with a great reputation and selection and great knowledge also makes his own line of wood pics which are considered very good. There are just so many companies If your willing to go big bucks and wood, Hammig would be my pers...

I just checked ebay and there is a guy there with like 500 transactions with not one complaint. He sells gemeinhardt pics for 399. I think he has the silver plate or plastic for that price, the silver head goes up a bit. I am not recommending him not having dealt with the guy but 500 happy custerms ...

Question about fast passages
This topic comes up alot. None of the answers I have read seem all that great. Some people just salivate more than others and have more of a problem. I have heard don't eat for a long time before you play, I have heard eat shortly before you play. I have heard drink alot of water and I have heard do...

Gemeinhardt makes some nice pics, better in my view than their very average flutes. again my opinion One thing to think about metal headed flutes usually have a lip plate like a flute and the transition is simplified. The plastic and wood heads usually do not have and it will be more of an adjustmen...

Someone told me once that the faster action is because the
new flutes are really clean compared to our old ones but I dont buy it being
that simple. Glad she is enjoying, did she get an EC headjoint? I forget if you
mentioned which one came with it.

Handmade is really not handmade anymore. Even handmade flutes now are generally about assembly adjustments, pad alignment and emboucure cutting. The rest of the flute is pretty much machine made. They now have pretty much found out the machine does a better job and cheaper and some processes like so...

Two hints from the Galway masterclass Take the piece apart and understand how it is written Play in the dark, of course that requires some memory already Other than that a lot of repitition and getting a feel for what the music is about and how it sounds. Listening to recordings of the piece can hel...

Yes Sir James said to play them at 112 as I recall. Are you self taught or if not what is your teacher saying? I wouldn't worry that much about the sight reading. But it does sound like you need to have some lessons to help you with the technical. Learning is rarely straight from nothing to greatnes...

Same topic in a another thread. First question is what is your budget? What is your objective? In other words how much money can/will you spend and what are looking for in flute. Answer is different at 1-2-3-5-10-25 thousand dollars. The ones less than $2,000 are probably not going to sound all that...

As far as student level piccs many of the same names hit the list. Emerson, Armstrong, Yamaha, Gemeinhardt and a different company from the flute names Hardy. In this group, like Yamaha in flutes, Gemeinhardt has a slightly better market reputation and share than the others from what I am told. My k...
