Help with audition pieces.
I''m thinking of auditioning for the Youth Concert Orchestra. I need help with the audition pieces. These ones below are a taste of the level required. Concertos: Mozart; Quantz- G Major; Chaminade- D Major; Telemann- f minor; Marcello- c minor or d minor; Haydn- C Major Pieces; G.F. Handel- Sonatas...

what grade am I???
I'm been playing almost 2 years, which is less than any of the first flutes in my section (and i'm "principal flautist"...gives you an idea of our band). Um...its hard to tell what level i'm at because most of my repetoire is arrangements. I know that on my scale of music (i think that's what we're ...

Gemeinhardt
I'm really in no position to give advice on buying flutes, since I don't yet own my own instrument, but right now, I'm using the 2SP model too. I've had a whole lot of lower-brand flutes, and they don't work as bad as most people think. Of course, I may just not be able to tell the difference betwee...

Poll- What kind of flute do you have?
I didn't realize the mini-controversy over "flutist" and "flautist" when I choose my screen name. I guess then that I would be more of a flutist than a flautist according to what Cleartone says. In my band, and in many American schools today, we are taught to be flautists. I guess they're trying to ...

Poll- What kind of flute do you have?
---------------- On 2/20/2004 9:47:29 PM Gemeinhardt 2sp can not be nickel plated the sp stands for silver plate. They probably made a 2np for a short time although nickel has its own problems. ----------------
Hahahahaha....it took a few posts for someone to realize my oxymoronic (...

Poll- What kind of flute do you have?
I've tried out a number of flutes at music stores and from renting, and i've found that the more expensive ones aren't always better. I've had solid silver ones that played way worse than nickel-plated, and i couldn't get a tone out of this gold name-brand flute at all. From what I've rented, my old...

Middle/Jr/Sr High Band Question
---------------- On 3/18/2004 1:34:17 PM I was wondering if some of you could answer a couple of questions for me. Are you in a Middle/Jr High Band? How many students are in your school band? How many band directors/teachers do you have ? How often do you have school lessons ? Are you pulled...

Flutes with curved head joints?
Me either. but sadly, i lost it in the
last 30 seconds because my computer was really slow. better luck next time
though. Anyone know what's with the colored instruments? I just saw a purple
piccolo, a red flute, and a blue sax on Ebay.

Flutes with curved head joints?
I'm 4'11. Is that short? I can manage
with a normal sized flute, but I'm interested in "different" flutes, alto
flutes, bass flutes, and piccolos. Thanks everyone! Bidding ends in 28 minutes.
I'll post then. Ok, I think I'll bid on this one.

how exactly do u push ur diaphram to paly vibrato?
Hahahaha...sponge bob...that's exactly what I do! I made a post about this a while ago, and somebody gave me good advice about pushing the diaphram. Think of something funny and sorta laugh while playing and the air will come out in shaky waves. I'm not sure if the throat is involved or if anything ...

Hindering Progress?
I'm going through the same thing right now, but I've only been playing about half as long as you. At my last private lesson, my teacher told me I had fallen horribly out of tune, so I'm back to working with fundamentals and tuning. Private lessons? Maybe you can get yours off a free program like I d...

Practice Time Poll
I've always stood by my band teacher's rule, "Rest as much as you play". So if i play for 4 hours, i rest for 4 hours. But most of the time, i practice 45-120 minutes at home (depending on homework). I get at least an extra half hour a day to practice at school everyday at lunch, and there's the ban...
